Debbie Adlam said she has “gone through every emotion”, but feels “better now in that I don't feel quite so alone”, as a petition to prevent their early release exceeded 440,000 signatures. She said that the early release of PC Harper’s killers could make emergency workers feel “completely unvalued”.

She says she is “bitterly disappointed” that two of her son’s killers remain eligible for early release, and asked: “What kind of society are we living in if these are the standards where the killers of a police officer can be released early?” Justice Secretary Alex Norris replied: “I understand why she’s so angry and we as a government share that anger… but we have to make this decision.” No, Alex. You don’t share that anger, if you did, you wouldn’t be doing it. And you don’t have to make this decision. There are more than 10,000 foreign national offenders currently sitting in our overcrowded prisons. Start deporting them.
