Andy Burnham has gained plaudits for stopping David Lammy's attack on Juries. But this is misinformation - juries are still under threat in the Courts and Tribunals bill. I tried to explain why it matters.

I remain in awe of how many topics you are on top of & how eloquently & most importantly how right your arguments are!

That is so good of you to say

A serious and forensic speech. Thank you so much for all your work on this issue and your citation of HHJ Rivlin's wise and incisive comments.

Thankyou

@toadmeister It really really matters

ONCE AGAIN. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Much appreciation-to Claire & the FSU. I’m beyond sick of Labour & its attack on British People & Our History. This was not a right Bestowed from above on British People. They faced hardship, imprisonment, exile & occasionally death sentence to obtain some of the longest standing and foundational laws of this country. How dare David Lammy , try to repeal an 800yr law -that has stood the test of time . From the Commons on 2 December 2025. Lammy said: “I will create new swift courts within the Crown court, with a judge alone deciding verdicts in triable either-way cases with a likely sentence of 3 years or less, as Sir Brian recommends. Sir Brian estimates that they will deliver justice at least 20% faster than jury trials.” When Andy McDonald pressed him for the evidence base, Lammy replied: “I say to my hon. Friend, who has tremendous expertise in these areas, that the evidence is contained in Sir Brian’s very lengthy review. That review looks at all the issues and says it is likely that the new division within the Crown court and the changes to magistrates courts will speed up the process by 20%. The Hansard record is at the Institute for Government finding from January 2026. Their modelling showed either-way cases only take up about 5 to 10% of Crown Court time, so even a 20% speedup on those saves roughly 1 to 2% overall. It’s absurd that they can just guess at 20% -have their courtrooms sit empty !!! and decide having a jury is the problem. It’s like suggesting MP’s second homes throw out all the furniture because they are not in use most of the time .

If only our MPs including the justice secretary @AlexJJNorris and our out-of-his-depth bumbling PM @andyburnham EVER bothered to understand their briefs letalone their decisions like you. I used to think the Lords was unnecessary until this dangerous incompetent Govt came along!

Thanks Claire

They should have a system allowing for people to volunteer to sit on juries

Ed Milliband was quick to congratulate this repulsive old man and promise that they would work together. And doubtless sleeps quite well at night.

Juries are composed of people ie us. And the Left despite its rhetoric of 'the people' dislikes actual people. 'The People' is a rhetorical trope to them. So they don't identify with juries but with judicial (expert/right thinking ie Left thinking) authority.

A lot in this
