I guess some of these extinctions were indirect, or more accurately multi-faceted. For example with the Dodo it was not just down to the settlers killing the birds to eat, but also the introduction of invasive species to the island which impacted on food sources and nesting.

We must avoid blaming homo sapiens for the extinction of other species. Humans are a part of nature and not separate from it. We need to recognize the interconnectedness of all life and avoid discrimination based on species
