Announcing ComputeConnect, the financial industry’s first exchange-for-physical (EFP) network for compute, coming soon from Architect and Compute Desk. ComputeConnect links US exchange-traded compute futures to compute capacity delivery. Exchange-listed cash-settled compute futures are entering US markets to correct course on the current AI economy, reorienting debt to long-term growth:... • Creating price discovery and transparency independent of any single capacity provider. • Establishing a forward curve for measuring deprecation and forecasting supply and demand. • Providing financial hedges for compute consumers and producers. • Enabling hedge funds, ETF companies, and traders to gain long and short financial exposure to compute. US cash-settled compute futures lack a physical delivery mechanism, and ComputeConnect fills this gap. Existing physically settled futures such as energy and agriculturals require their clearing house (DCO) to set a uniform standard for the grade and delivery method for the underlying commodity. Compute, by contrast, is highly fragmented, heterogeneous, and rapidly evolving, making it infeasible for any single DCO to define and enforce comparable standards. ComputeConnect establishes a network of compute capacity providers and links the network with Architect’s US futures products using exchange-for-physicals (EFPs), OTC contracts in which futures positions are exchanged for the assets the futures track. EFPs allow counterparties to negotiate the grade, timing, location, and other characteristics of the commodity along with a basis tied to the futures settlement price. NVIDIA is about to grow a new moat that has the potential to be the company’s most impenetrable moat yet: The Compute Futures Market One of the reasons why there’s so much demand for U.S. T-bills is because the market for them is incredibly deep, and large pools of capital can come in and out freely without much disturbance. That attribute is attractive, which leads to more demand for T-bills Liquidity begets liquidity Another example is what Bill Ackman is describing in the attached clip - the more valuable a company becomes, the easier it is for said company to raise capital to fund expansion, which in of itself is virtuous and valuable The same concept is going to apply to compute, and in some ways- it already is. NVIDIA GPUs are already the most financeable (in many cases the only financeable) form of compute for various parties to deploy in their data centers. But the introduction of a forward curve that facilitates financial expression like hedging takes that concept to a different level Companies who consume compute (structurally short compute) will want to be able to hedge their input costs, and companies who produce compute (structurally long compute) will want to be able to hedge their output price. The market will coalesce even more around the deepest / most liquid pools to facilitate this - which will be NVIDIA based futures (WTI Crude) This liquidity itself will become part of the value of purchasing NVIDIA equipment, it will be part of the justification to pay the “Nvidia tax”. The CEO of the world's largest asset manager just said something that should reframe how every investor thinks about the AI trade. Larry Fink, managing $11.5 trillion at BlackRock, stood at the Milken Institute Global Conference and said four words that matter, "We just don't have enough compute." "The United States is short power. We're short compute. We're short chips. And there's going to be shortages in all three and memory, four things. I actually believe a new asset class will be buying futures of compute." Think about what that means. Fink is predicting that compute becomes a tradable commodity like oil, like grain, like natural gas where investors buy forward contracts on future capacity because the shortage is so structural and so predictable that a derivatives market will emerge to price it. That is not a minor observation from a finance executive but rather the chairman of the most powerful capital allocator on the planet telling you that compute scarcity is a multi-year, investable megatrend. The data backs him up completely. Data centers will consume 70% of all memory chips produced globally in 2026. Advanced HBM production from Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron is sold out through 2026 and into 2027 and a single AI server consumes 10-20x more memory than a conventional workload server. DRAM supply growth is running at just 16% annually while AI infrastructure demand is growing at 80%+. The chip crunch, the power crunch, and the compute crunch are not temporary dislocations, they are structural, and they will get worse before they get better. Compute Wars: OpenAI vs Anthopic. Why was Opus 4.5 such a breakthrough? Anthropic got lots more compute from AWS Madison and New Carlisle sites likely more than doubling their capacity. This got Anthropic got close to OpenAI's total capacity, and probably much higher effective capacity available for new model runs. Remember that it takes 6+ months between getting capacity and releasing the model, so the extra OpenAI capacity might be aligning well with the 'spud' model rather than GPT-5.4. Unless something dramatic happens, OpenAI will pull away in terms of compute available in H2 2026, but 2027 will be close. Future years are less certain but so far OpenAI has much higher planned capacity, though can't imagine Anthropic isn't pushing as hard as they can to get lots more compute. Always watch the compute, other things matter, but any new capability breakthrough probably came from throwing more compute at it.

When we first met Tom, his obsession with energy markets came through immediately. Seemed random, but it's "actually" central to what he's building at Actual Computer. The thesis is that local inference is inevitable. Open source models are getting good enough, people don't want to feed their thoughts to AI labs, and demand for compute will continue to be insatiable. But the main forcing function is that chips aren't the bottleneck anymore - power is. Compute is derivative of energy, and the massive data center buildout has created an energy shortage where GPUs sit idle waiting for power to come online. Yet one place that already has power, and always will, is everywhere else. Homes. Businesses. Universities. Collectively, they have more compute than all the data centers combined. Tom Lynch goal is to build a distributed network of people plugging in their local compute (devices like Mac minis to consumer Nvidia cards) to serve inference demand. The substrate he's chosen is Bittensor, on Subnet 95. Actual Computer has an exceptional team behind it, and this is one of the projects that's gotten me most excited in a long time. At AI Summit 2026 India, I spoke about why the GPU challenge is not just a ‘supply chain issue’ but a ‘sovereignty issue’. Today, design monopolies, manufacturing concentration and export controls determine who gets access. India controls none of these critical levers. We have the talent. We have the ambition. In most places in the US, you can't trade onion futures. This is because of the the Onion Futures Act of 1958, a U.S. federal law that permanently bans futures trading in onions. As a result, onions are the only commodity explicitly prohibited from futures markets in the United States. The Act came about after an episode in the early 1950s, when onions were actively traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Two men named Vincent Kosuga and Sam Seigel bought up enormous quantities of physical onions, and gained control over storage and distribution. By dominating the available supply, they were able to push prices higher while simultaneously taking large short positions in onion futures, which was a bet that prices would eventually fall. Once their short positions were in place, Kosuga and Seigal released massive amounts of onions back into the market, flooding supply and causing prices to collapse. Accounts from the period describe warehouses overflowing with onions, spoilage accelerating, and farmers unable to sell their crops for prices that even covered transportation costs.
