Another annoying bug was found in Android 17 which a user (juan camilo duarte)shared with me. Toggling Wi‑Fi from the status bar only disables quick access; to fully turn it off, you need to open Wi‑Fi settings and switch it off there. Android Developers Android Made by Google

@juankmiloduarte @AndroidDev @Android @madebygoogle I don’t think you know what constitutes as a bug. This behaviour is an intended design feature where the Wi-Fi is disconnected until the next day / morning. Just like iOS. Now I agree there should be a toggle in settings to change this but it is not a bug.

@juankmiloduarte @AndroidDev @Android @madebygoogle But this should not happen.

@juankmiloduarte @AndroidDev @Android @madebygoogle Says who? As I said earlier this is by design, most probably they’re following iOS in this regard.

@pixeluibygoogle @AndroidDev @Android @madebygoogle battery draining

@pixeluibygoogle @AndroidDev @Android @madebygoogle Nope. It doesn’t drain the battery as Wi-Fi is not connected 🤷‍♂️

@juankmiloduarte @AndroidDev @Android @madebygoogle It isn't a bug. It was there intentionally.

@juankmiloduarte @AndroidDev @Android @madebygoogle You sure is this a bug? You can still turn off WiFi from the status bar, you have to click on the name which expands the menu

@juankmiloduarte @AndroidDev @Android @madebygoogle This should not happen... If it is toggled then it should turn off by itself... To turn it off we should not need to go to expand or settings.

@juankmiloduarte @AndroidDev @Android @madebygoogle Based on Gemini 'Disabling vs. Turning Off: Tapping the Wi-Fi icon disconnects you from your current network and temporarily pauses auto-reconnecting (disabling active Wi-Fi usage).

Viv Blanchard's profile picture
Viv Blanchard2 months ago

@juankmiloduarte @AndroidDev @Android @madebygoogle However, the Wi-Fi radio itself remains active in the background for location accuracy, scanning, and system services (like Google Location Services and Nearby Share).

@juankmiloduarte @AndroidDev @Android @madebygoogle It is not a bug—it is intentional system behavior, though it is a common source of frustration.

@juankmiloduarte @AndroidDev @Android @madebygoogle it's not a bug, it's a "feature" to welcome iphone users 😂 i guess. on iphone turning off wifi from the control center doesn't really turn off the wifi, just the quick access

@juankmiloduarte @AndroidDev @Android @madebygoogle If this is a feature then such a feature is not required.

@juankmiloduarte @AndroidDev @Android @madebygoogle This is performing as intended, and we like it that way, it simply disconnects from the network

@juankmiloduarte @AndroidDev @Android @madebygoogle This has been happening since the first day of the A17 update. I thought they would fix it in the July patch, but I don't know if it was fixed in the betas.

@juankmiloduarte @AndroidDev @Android @madebygoogle That's to disconnect the Wi-Fi, not to turn it off. If you want to connect, just tap it again and it will connect.
