Break-A-Scene: Extracting Multiple Concepts from a Single Image introduce the task of textual scene decomposition: given a single image of a scene that may contain several concepts, we aim to extract a distinct text token for each concept, enabling fine-grained control over the generated scenes. To this end, we propose augmenting the input image with masks that indicate the presence of target concepts. These masks can be provided by the user or generated automatically by a pre-trained segmentation model. We then present a novel two-phase customization process that optimizes a set of dedicated textual embeddings (handles), as well as the model weights, striking a delicate balance between accurately capturing the concepts and avoiding overfitting. We employ a masked diffusion loss to enable handles to generate their assigned concepts, complemented by a novel loss on cross-attention maps to prevent entanglement. We also introduce union-sampling, a training strategy aimed to improve the ability of combining multiple concepts in generated images. We use several automatic metrics to quantitatively compare our method against several baselines, and further affirm the results using a user study. Finally, we showcase several applications of our method paper page:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has refused to condemn this protest on their campus. Don't get me wrong. I completely support free speech, innocent Palestinians and Arabs and one's right to express themselves, but does this go over the line? They were literally getting children to shout “Glory to the murders!” and “We will liberate the land — by any means necessary," days after terrorists murdered innocent civilians in Israel. I am all for people wanting to protest in support of innocent Palestinian civilians. Heck, I'd even join them and I'm Jewish. What I am against is the propagation of ideologies which glorify the murder of civilians, kidnappings and terror. There is no reason why the University of Wisconsin-Madison can't come out with a strong statement against this kind of activity on campus. Agree?

Two St Bernards found, presumed dumped. The poor dogs - a boy & a girl - had been wandering the Wicklow roads for hours. The boy was lying in the middle of the road when they were found. They’re both in our care now. Chipped but no owners. They have had veterinary treatment for exhaustion - they’re thin, matted & completely exhausted. Potentially used for breeding, then discarded when no use anymore. This is Ireland, the dog crises gets worst. 💔 Our hearts are literally broken. We’re trying our best to help as many as we can. Robinson Ortiz...Atta Baby! Ortiz had a HUGE year this past season, and got rewarded by being placed on the Dodgers' 40-man roster. Ortiz posted an ERA of 2.73, an average against of just .207, and had 72 Ks in 59.1 innings. And ALL of that is great. And, while the "execution" piece is still THE focus, keep in mind, he, in essence, hadn't pitched since 2021, due to Tommy John. Ortiz was a HIGHLY thought of prospect back in 2021, before his Tommy John, and came back to start 2024, but was shut down after just 6 outings and 11 innings in May of 2024. So, for him to be able to post 59.1 innings and have 48 appearances was HUGE in terms of showing that he's BACK. Then, to have the success on top of that, after such a long layoff, just goes to show how good his stuff is. Ortiz features a HUGE sweeping slider that starts well behind the back of a left-hander, and breaks from one side of the earth to the other. Trying to decipher whether that pitch is going to land "in the zone" or not is VERY difficult, even for hitters that have a LOT of MLB experience like he faced at OKC. His fastball is firm, and he can hit 6s and 7s, so those 2 pitches play well off of each other. Welcome aboard, Robinson. It's been a LONG road, one you've navigated successfully. A 15-year-old Southwestern Academy junior in Flint, Michigan was just charged for her actions in this video, where she throws a chair at her teacher after getting into an argument with another student. Flint Community Schools released a statement saying that the teacher in the video is doing well and has been released from the hospital. What do you think are the underlying causes of kids reacting in this manner to authority? What can we do better as a society to try and prevent this sort of behavior? Is it a lack of parenting? Is it mental health? Is it children who are unattended too?

A little bit of Warning era history for ya... About half of these demos were recorded on old '90s tape machines called ADATs. They ran on actual VHS tapes. Billie had two in his old studio and used them to make 16-track demos on two tapes. The problem was, if you lost one or broke one, half of your songs were gone. When we started digging around the archive for the Warning demos, we found a bunch of drum tracks but no guitars or vocals anywhere. Then Dugan found this broken tape at the bottom of the box labeled "Samiam," managed to fix it up, and voila there were the missing tracks! Here’s a taste of one of those demos. The first word my daughter learned to speak was ‘book’. With wide eyes, she would point at a book and say ‘boo’ in a voice full of glee. We began taking her to a nearby Crossword bookshop (in Aundh, Pune) when she could barely walk. Our trips soon became a cherished daddy-daughter tradition, where we would visit once every month and buy three books for her. She chose two and I chose one. A friendly employee once told me, his face beaming with pride, that this was the biggest Crossword in India! Four floors full of books felt like a heaven. But then they converted one floor into a kids play area. Another surrendered to a toy shop. Then cafes. Then stationery. Then an event space. The book shelves, once brimming with finely curated collections, became crowded with cheap campus romance and badly written historical fiction. Yet, we continued our tradition. 3 books a month! Yesterday, we went there to find the doors shut. A man on a ladder was ripping out the Crossword sign. Slowly. Methodically. As he pulled out one letter after another, I felt a physical sensation of pain. My daughter had tears in her eyes. A glowing light somewhere was snuffed out, and the world became slightly darker. And some of my faith in humanity died forever! A society that does not read is a society that does not know itself. We used to turn pages and paint stories with our imagination. Now we endlessly stab screens till our thumbs hurt, our minds numbed by the dopamine drip of likes and reels. We have become slaves to our devices, consuming whatever they decide for us, our thoughts hijacked by algorithms, our souls starved for meaning. If you want your children to read, don’t tell them. Show them. Children hate listening to adults, but they love imitating them. Pick up a book yourself, and they will do the same! P.S.: I verified the claim. The largest store of India’s most beloved chain of bookshops has indeed shut down.
