Another example from the 90s. As cost rose, many techniques were created to save cels. A lot of them were very creative. Using photos gave anime a distinct fingerprint. Something doesn't always need to be animated to look good. I'd like to see this done in modern productions.

Gainax loved doing this back in the day. Photography feels like just long gone, these endings and scenes feel incredibly nostalgic, they captured a moment that cannot be recreated. A remnant of simpler times.
