Speaking at the European Parliament today on the subject of Long Covid. Feels a privilege to be here and will advocate on behalf of all of us long haulers who are still living with the condition, up to five years in.

Every unmasked advocate adds to society's conviction that those taking precautions are just anxious and misinformed. It's not preaching. FFS just wear one. It's just a mask.

No mask? Why would you risk getting infected?

Mm I supposed to feel impressed watching you talk about LC while you're unmasked? You could be spreading sars2 at the conference, or become infected from everyone else. Do you just not accept that covid is airborne? Are you ignorant about the surge? Why would you do this?

Hey Gez, ty for doing this. EU Parl is a tough advocacy target bc they don't really control much (biomedical) funding Our community is struggling with figuring out the right policy asks. It's mostly been "more funding", and in this case you just asked for 'please talk about it'.

Covid is not over. Public health is NOT a matter of individual preference. Your behavior is a form of communication. If you talk about Long Covid without wearing a mask, you are not the expert you claim to be. Also btw, G. Medinger from 2023 has something to say to you:

Doing great work, thank you. Also, please wear a mask indoors. Given what you’ve been through and you know, it’s kind of incredible that you don’t.

Why does no one mask at these events? Genuinely curious

This message would be much more powerful and help patients to a far greater degree if you would wear a respirator mask for events like this. Infections are rife. Normalising good mask use would help. Failing to mask makes LC seem like no big deal and COVID purely in the past.
