John McTiernan on the meaning behind this gun firing scene in "Predator" (1987): "When I first went to work on 'Predator' (1987), I had the feeling that people had a sort of perverse fascination with pictures of guns firing, literally an almost p****gr**hic desire. And I said to myself, “Okay, if you want pictures of guns firing, I’ll give you pictures of guns firing.” So I created this sequence where they take all of their guns and they blaze away continually for five minutes flat, and they flatten the jungle and they mow down everything. And what I was really doing was… to quietly ridicule the desire to see pictures of guns firing. Now, you have sort of a moral separate peace here. In order to do it, I set up a circumstance where there are no human beings in front of the guns. Where, in fact, the point of all the firing was, as the man says, as soon as they stop shooting, “We hit nothing.” The whole point was the impotence of all the guns. Which was just exactly the opposite of what I believed I was being hired to sell." He also pointed out that he did the same thing in 'Die Hard' (1988). ("Predator: Collector’s Edition 1987", Cynthia Fuchs, Pop Matters, 2004 & IMDb) In another interview, "Interviewer: And the sequence where they’re shooting into the forest is your commentary on guns, right? McTiernan: Well, it was sort of a commentary. There were some studio types who were basically into gun p****gr**hy. They wanted to sell gun p****gr**hy. They said I wasn’t doing enough close-ups of guns and stuff. So I said, “Why don’t I just do a whole scene?” But I also made it one that had something to do with the story, because all of these guys have giant guns and the whole point is that they’re helpless in the face of this monster. That’s the whole point of the story. They’re these enormously, heavily-armed guys, and they’re not prepared for this. So the whole point was, we hit nothing. But it also got rid of the gun p****gr**hers because I gave them five minutes of nothing but guns. So they were quiet after that." ("Exclusive: 'Predator' Director John McTiernan Celebrates the '80s Classic's 30th Anniversary", Drew Taylor, Moviefone, 2017) P.S: On this day, 39 years ago, "Predator" (1987) was released in Turkey & the USA.

NEW: Joe Rogan Says Oliver Stone Might Know More About the JFK Assassination Than Anyone Alive. Joe Rogan just dropped a bombshell about who truly understands the JFK assassination—and it’s not some CIA whistleblower or retired spook. It’s legendary filmmaker Oliver Stone. And as new intel continues to surface with ongoing disclosures, chances are Stone already uncovered it long ago. “Oliver Stone apparently testified about the JFK assassination. He knows everything about it.” Rogan said Stone was on a roll the entire time they spoke—before the podcast, during the podcast, after the podcast. “He's literally a warehouse of information on the JFK assassination. Before the podcast, during the podcast, after the podcast. He wouldn't stop talking about it.” According to Rogan, Stone can recall every minute detail about the events leading up to the shooting: “He's a brilliant guy. Oliver Stone can give you——he can sit down and break down, just from recall,” “Like, complete recall of dates, times, who was involved, who they worked for before this happened, who Kennedy had fired, why they were on the Warren Commission report, what the Warren Commission report's objectives were, who was influencing it, who saw the gunshots in the grassy knoll, how did they die in mysterious circumstances.” “Rattle it all off, off the top of his head.” “This guy has been studying the JFK assassination forever.” The takeaway? Stone isn’t theorizing—he’s mapping a trail of evidence most people never even knew existed.
