Garry Porter is a 66 year-old white man who lives in Glendale, Arizona. He is the engineering director at Caris Life Sciences Caris Life Sciences. He was upset that I condemned racists for donating $700,000 to Shiloh Hendrix, who called an autistic five-year-old Black boy a ni88er, so he left a voicemail at my church. Everyone’s crying about the Obama video, but last night President Trump also posted this, which somehow didn’t make headlines; can’t imagine why. Old enough to know better. Old enough to understand the Constitution he claims to love. Yet emotionally fragile enough to call a church and threaten physical violence over a social media post. There are hundreds of white people on Twitter upset that I spend my money with Black businesses. I don’t care. We’ve got to stop letting people gaslight us into thinking racism isn’t real or that group economics isn’t necessary for Black progress. Right now, Black unemployment is up to 7.2%. For Black women, it’s risen from 5.5% to 6.3% since last year. If we’re serious about confronting discrimination, we have to be intentional about supporting each other. That’s not racist — that’s wisdom. There are always a few Black folks who choose to serve white supremacy. Darrell Glasper is one of them. If you call a Black man a “cancer” for standing up for his people, you’re not just out of line — you’re a tool of the very system we’re fighting. We have to call that out as boldly as they attack us. I’m a free Black man, and I act like it. My doctors? Black. Landscaper? Black. HVAC tech? Black. Electrician? Black. Esthetician? Black. Lawyers, tailor, publicist, business manager, print shop, mechanic — all Black. When I host events, I choose Black venues. Because the Black dollar has to build Black economic power. If you’re white in America, you don’t have to try to buy white — it’s the default. So don’t be offended when Black people choose to be intentional about building our own economic future.
