This shutdown has exasperated a system we’ve been working fervently to rebuild. This is not fair to controllers who are struggling to pay their bills and it’s not fair to hardworking Americans who need to travel.

“Could’ve been disastrous.” An air traffic controller was stunned after realizing two American Airlines aircraft on the same frequency were using the exact same call sign: American 2482. One was on the arrival while the other was departing, creating the risk that a crew could respond to an instruction intended for the other aircraft. Trump, we are only hiring the best and the brightest, and we want to pay them accordingly. Since announcing the new streamlined hiring process and a 30% raise for air traffic controllers, The FAA ✈️ has seen a significant increase in Air Traffic Skills Assessment (ATSA) registrations. The ATSA tests the skills necessary to become an FAA controller.

American Air Traffic Controller gives his honest opinion of what’s become of the profession “I'm an air traffic controller and the views I'm going to express in this video are my loan and do not necessarily represent the FAA, the DOT or NACA. The state of air traffic control in the United States is abysmal. It's shameful. I used to make videos on this page encouraging people to go into air traffic control, showing them how the application process works and everything. And some of those videos had millions of views. I haven't made one of those videos in several years because in good conscience, can't promote this field like I used to. And I love being an air traffic controller” This is a 10 minute video full of both fascinating and horrifying information. This has to change immediately One thing I will point out is mentally ill and depressed people are working the job, and they can’t get help. This is extremely dangerous “it's unfortunate because controllers can't seek help for any mental health issues that they have. They can't because we have to have a medical clearance for this job. And if you go to a therapist or whatever and say, hey, I'm depressed and hey, I'm thinking of ending it. We have to report every time we meet with any doctor to our flight surgeon. If you say those things, you'll get your medical certificate pulled.”

I am pleased that my repeated outcries about this have led to a record number of 31 controller trainees assigned to Austin. We just need more progress to avoid a catastrophe here.

"When we get to a million deliveries a day, Zipline will be doing somewhere between 40 and 80 times as many flights in the US, in commercial airspace, as all other airlines combined. It's obviously a different class of aircraft. It's a totally different kind of problem. But the reality is when you look at air traffic control, they don't make a distinction. When you talk about all the auxiliary systems that have to be built, there is a huge transformation that's gonna have to happen in air traffic control. People are really excited about electrification of vehicles. People are excited about autonomous vehicles. The reality is as those transformations occur, there are gonna be 10 times as many autonomous vehicles in the air as there are using these teeny, archaic, constrained things that we call roads. The sky is a big place. It makes sense to utilize it. You can give Earth back to humans. You can make neighborhoods quieter, safer, less pollution, less traffic. You can make huge improvements to Earth if we can more effectively utilize the sky. This is gonna require huge transformation of how we think about air traffic control in the US, and it means that we need to design it with AI and autonomy in mind, rather than the way it was designed, which was in 1950 using pencils and paper and note cards, and a human looking out trying to watch the airplane."

PPISP will arrive in the upcoming nightly build of LichtFeld Studio! It is now fully supported including the controller. LichtFeld is the only software that also provides GUI integration. Give it a shot in the next build. I tried to make it as memory efficient as possible and it only adds a small VRAM penalty. However, the controller comes with some downsides: It is an extra file to not pollute the ply The appearance adjustments cannot be baked into the splat, i.e. you will need LFS for now Hard to imagine that any popular web viewer will support it anytime soon However, very soonish there will be a sequencer which you can use to create videos. As LichtFeld Studio continues to grow and expand, that's not going to be a real downside anyway :)
