The retcon is the idea Qunari would even acknowledge transition. If you swing a sword good, even if you're born a woman, you're a man. You could even write it as Krem gravitating towards Qunari because they don't make it complicated. But they fucked it because they're hacks.

Sten straight up says it makes no sense for someone to change, even bringing up Woman to Man like Krem is How do Qunari go from that, to acknowledging it with their own little word for it How come Sten doesn't bring up the idea that the Fem Warden is potentially Akun-Athlok?

I don't count anything Bull says about the Qunari as true. Hes a spy, a fucked up, multiple times 'reconditioned' one, who's 'true' name is literally 'the liar'. Hes from the priest castes secret police & his explicit mission is to undermine anyone opposing the Qunari.

Veilguard actually confirmed Akun-Athlok as a thing that actually exists. Made even funnier by the fact Taash straight up ignores it. So not only was it a retcon, it was a retcon seemingly designed for Taash's exact situation and Taash said "No, not special enough."

Yeah, but I definitely dont consider Veilguard to be Canon at all, considering it went out of its way to pretty much erase every connection to the previous games, including their own prior pandering. Inquisition still leaves some wiggle room.

I do not care about about LGBT on my games is just that specific qunari from Dragonage Veilguard was just an unlikable cunt and you could not do anything about it, not kill them, expel them or just ignore them to get a perfect ending

Any dragon age fan knows the writers were still figuring out what qunari society, culture, beliefs etc. would be like in origins. Da 2 and inquisition are where qunari as a race were fully realized. So yeah 2 and inquisition qunari are more accurate than origins

Dragon Age fans will never ever concede ground on Qunari retcons as a race/faction after DA:O and I sometimes wonder if it's because Gaider once compared them to "Islamic militant borg" and a lot of them love the retcons because they are more PC and easier to digest

this doesn't really mean anything. sten could just be saying "why do you present yourself as a woman if only men do men jobs and fighting is a man job". if you could be trans in dao and he misgendered you that'd be different. but these are literally not mutually exclusive beliefs

the Futurama quote also applies to alien cultures and worldbuilding in video games. who do the qunari represent in the old games? nobody. they’re an alien race. that won’t do. that makes people feel alienated!

Retcons don’t necessarily ruin the story tbf. A lot of stories have those and are still considered good. You could argue the Geth from ME1 being turned into cultist is a retcon, but would you say its bad?

And Krem is aso bland as a character, you could have done so much with him and instead of "OH LOOK A TRANS CHARACTER" - what does he do! "He's trans, he exists!" - oh. ok. Like, he even has dialogue because they knew a chud was gonna try and ask, and mf just ditches you.

I feel like Krem was gay character male or female then removed all his or her personality just to add an Trans character.

The Qunari deserved better.

It's very weird to try to retrofit the extremist religion that punished non-conformity with death to be, in fact, super-individualistic

I always found it funny how the Qunari specifically were used for all these genre things, it's like they're being punished for being too "conservative" in Origins.

The Qunari having strict gender roles does not preclude them respecting an individual’s gender. Women aren’t allowed to fight in the qun. But Krem isn’t a woman, he’s a man. Qunari can be conservative zealots who recognize gender and sex as separate. They are aliens.
