AOC: AI systems want us to be dependent and outsource our cognition to a machine, and they want us to increasingly rely on AI systems so that they can sell intelligence back to us. AI needs two things. It needs capital-intensive resources. But it also needs an uneducated population...

it's a brutal cycle because the dumber the population gets the more indispensable these tools become, and before you know it we will be paying a monthly premium just to have an app articulate our own feelings and basic arguments for us

I've seen enough movies where AI destroys humanity because humans are arrogant and egotistical. This is the same with our timeline. Rich, arrogant, egotistical white men are going to kill us all.

This is actually worth thinking about. I don't know that I agree that AI “needs” an uneducated population, but the risk of outsourcing too much of our thinking is real. My answer would be the opposite educate yourself and your children as much as possible. Research. Read. Ask questions. Question the AI too. Use AI as a tool. Don't hand it your brain.

Half right. A 2025 MIT study found people who wrote with ChatGPT could barely quote their own essays minutes later. That cost is real. But the fix is how schools use it, not whether companies sell it. Should students learn on it or be kept off it?
