Apollo 13 earned Ed Harris an #Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor & he absolutely deserved it. In a cast loaded with great actors, Harris steals the spotlight. I think this guy’s a brilliant actor who looks, sounds & feels like a real human. We need more actors like this.

Philip Seymour Hoffman probably should’ve won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for The Master. I only use the word “probably” because the field in 2013 was loaded- filled with actors like Robert De Niro, Tommy Lee Jones & Christoph Waltz. This is Hoffman & PTA at their best.

Robert Duvall earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his work in A Civil Action back in 1998. I really enjoy this movie. A Civil Action isn’t perfect but there are so many excellent actors in this film, none better than Duvall. A truly fantastic legal thriller.

The Imitation Game feels like it came out a lifetime ago. This earned Benedict Cumberbatch an Oscar nomination for Best Actor & while I’m not as high on Cumberbatch like some people on this app, I think he’s without flaw in this film. I’m also partial to historical dramas- they interest me in particular. Good film - great performance.

Tom Hanks last earned an Oscar nomination back in 2020 for Best Supporting Actor after Hanks played Mr. Rogers. It needs to be noted that Hanks cut through a totally loaded Best Supporting Actor field, which included fellow nominees like Al Pacino, Anthony Hopkins, Brad Pitt & Joe Pesci. Hanks earned his keep here, he perfected Mr. Rogers & brought an emotional punch to his performance. 🎂

Jack Nicholson beat out Robert Duvall for the #Oscar for Best Actor when Jack won his 3rd Academy Award for As Good As It Gets. This was a loaded Best Actor race that included Dustin Hoffman, Matt Damon & Jack’s old pal Peter Fonda. I’m glad Jack won, but what a field of actors.
