Don’t bet on Apple going forward that company needs more than just a new CEO, they need a total overhaul. I didn’t get the Duo for two reasons: faintness in the screen at the fold; the camera was a step backwards. Xiaomi is partnering with Leica, and DJI with Hasselblad. Meanwhile, Apple is spending billions to create their own technology, and then not using it in their latest product. Brilliant.

The Xiaomi SU7 just keeps crashing in China - Part 3 This is getting out of hand. Every day, we see new videos on Chinese social media of crashing Xiaomi SU7 sedans. We only post 25% or so, there is much more. Since our last Xiaomi crash-post on April 6, at least 10 new crashes have happened. Whenever a new model is launched, photos of crashes of that car start to appear on Chinese social media, just because people pay attention. Normally, after a few months, the attentions is over and the model really crashes as much as any other car. But in case of the Xiaomi SU7, something more seems to be going on. The latest videos show SU7 sedans in a ditch and against barriers. The 2nd video is interesting. It shows an SU7 on a parking lot, crashing into a Chery QQ that was parked there. Perhaps the auto-park function didn't notice the small QQ and went for it? There have been reports in Chinese media that insurance companies are refusing to insure the SU7. Xiaomi and the insurers have stated that these reports are false. We will try to find out more about insurance prices for the SU7. The RWD SU7 Pro has 220 kW, the AWD Max has 673 kW and the AWD Ultra has 1138 kW. When the SU7 launched, there was a problem with the brakes. This has since been fixed, according to Xiaomi. With Tim Cook stepping down, most people are talking about the iPhone, the App Store, and the stock price. But there is one move he made that almost nobody talks about and it is the single biggest reason iPhone crushed its competition in the early years. In 2005, two years before the iPhone launched, Cook made a bet. Flash storage was still relatively rare at the time and smartphones didn't exist yet. But Cook saw what was coming, a future where mobile devices would all need flash memory and he knew that if that future arrived without Apple having locked up supply, they'd be fighting for components against every phone maker on earth. So he prepaid $1.25B to suppliers including Samsung and Hynix to corner the market on NAND flash memory through 2010. The contract had a catch, suppliers had to prioritize Apple's orders over everyone else's. This was a massive gamble and if the iPhone flopped, Apple was still on the hook for the full purchase commitment. The iPhone did not flop. It went on to sell tens of millions of units in its first two years with zero supply chain slowdowns. And while Apple scaled freely, competitors couldn't get the components they needed to build a credible response. They were literally locked out of the supply chain. The move was so effective that Cook ran the same playbook across the business. He bought $100 million of holiday season air freight capacity in advance, months before competitors thought to book it, leaving rivals scrambling to ship products during the most critical sales window of the year. He cut Apple's component suppliers from 100 down to 24 and slashed inventory turnover time from 30 days to 6 days within his first seven months at the company. By 2012, Apple was turning over its inventory every 5 day, Dell took 10, Samsung took 21. Jobs is credited as the product visionary but Cook was the supply chain visionary and in the early smartphone wars, the supply chain was the moat.

Hyundai Glovis achieves 100% robot uptime with wireless charging! 🔌 Hyundai Glovis faced a problem common to warehouse automation: charging downtime was killing efficiency. Their fleet of AGVs operated with a 6.75:1 work-to-charge ratio. Every seventh robot was charging at any given moment. This meant 15% operational efficiency loss, or the need to purchase 15% extra robots just to compensate for charging downtime. CaPow solution is wireless power transfer while robots work! 🛜 The Genesis platform uses capacitive charging pads placed in the floor where robots naturally stop during operations, in this case, at picking stations. No docking required, no deviation from routes, no excavation needed. The test compared two identical setups. Section A used three robots with traditional charging (operate until 40% battery, charge to 95%). Section B used three robots with CaPow's system, charging at the picking station while operators picked items from bins. Traditional robots lost 8.3% battery per hour and suffered 33% operational inefficiency (150 minutes downtime out of 447 minutes). CaPowered robots gained 1% battery per hour on average and achieved 100% uptime for the entire 8-hour shift. The math on a 100-robot fleet is clear. Traditional charging means only 85 robots working at any time. To maintain full throughput, you need to buy 15 extra robots plus 15 extra chargers. NEWS: Porsche has announced that its 2026 Cayenne EV will be able to wirelessly charge in your home. It can charge at speeds up to 11kW. The World Premiere of the Cayenne EV will happen later this year. It will be the first model that can be ordered with optional Porsche Wireless Charging receiver unit located in the underbody of the vehicle between the front wheels. Porsche will be the first car manufacturer to bring an 11 kW charging system with a ‟one-box” base plate for battery-electric vehicles to markets. One-Box means that all components, aside from the supply cable, are contained within the floor plate - there is no need to install a wall box or control unit. To initiate the charging process, the Cayenne only has to be parked above the floor plate. The contactless transfer of energy between the two charging units takes place over a distance of roughly four to six inches. To make this possible, the Cayenne reduces the ride height automatically. The base plate has a motion detector and foreign object detection. The charging process is automatically interrupted if interference is detected. A special view in the Surround View parking function makes it easier to maneuver the Cayenne to the optimal charging position. As soon as the parking position above the floor plate is reached and the parking brake is activated, the charging process begins. Customers don't need to do anything else. Porsche Wireless Charging will initially launch in Europe in 2026. Other markets around the world will follow.
