Archaeologists have infamously blackballed their peers for finding actual evidence of anything outside their paradigm of consensus. In some cases they later come around to accepting it, but only after trashing the careers of the initial discoverers. Why in the hell should we trust that there aren't many discoveries that get outright ignored in favor of preserving one's career, knowing this happens? Additionally we have plenty of anomalies in prehistoric remains and architecture that are unexplained and in many cases treated like poison for anyone to study.
