The Gauteng Liquor Act 2 of 2003 states that no person may consume alcohol in or near any public place, this includes a vehicle driven on a public road or parked in a public area. A fine of R300 will be issued if a person is caught. So no: passengers are not allowed to drink

Littering, abuse of power — give him a disciplinary hearing.

Passengers are not allowed to drink alcohol in a vehicle that is on a public road or space. This specific case the vehicle will be moving on a public road/public space. Yall really need to educate yourselves about simple rules. Those passengers can also be arrested and charged.

Why are they fighting? A simple sorry, we were not aware, put all drinks in the boot and continue with your journey was simple but hey, let me turn on my camera and cause a scene. Now your face is all over internet for wrong reasons 🚮

I don't want to hear anything.....to me drunkards are guilty by default. Anything drunkards do never ends well. One day they'll thank that policeman.

So, who's gonna clean the mess he's creating? Can't he find a rubbish bin and throw the bottles in there? Stupid and emotional policeman. You can execute the law without emotions. Ke nahana ba motimme kuku, hence the emotions.

It's still a public drinking offense. The place looks like a parking alot in the mall. You can only drink in the establishments with permits like tarvens, restaurants, private places such homes, townhouses etc.

Are there no dustbins there? The environment is not respected in SA, our people just litter everywhere with little or no care at all.

@Patrickmbhele No, they are not. I almost got arrested for drinking in a car, and I was not the one driving.

Yes drinking on public is an offence but carrying alcohol inside your car on bublic is not an offence. Why is the officer taking other people sealed alcohol and throwing it away. That's provocation at its peak.

No they are not. There are laws at provincial and municipal level that prohibit alcohol consumption in, or near, public spaces. The inside of a vehicle in a public space, in these instances, is also considered a public space.
