Arnold Schwarzenegger really wanted to play the hero in the first Terminator movie. He thought O.J. Simpson was going to be Terminator. Then he made the mistake of explaining to director James Cameron exactly how OJ had to play the part. Cameron was amazed and asked Arnold on the spot: “Why don’t you play Terminator?!” HOWARD STERN: “You wanted to be Kyle Reese.” ARNOLD: “That’s right.” STERN: “And the director said to you, ‘Hey, man, are you crazy? The movie’s about the Terminator.’ How did you beat out those guys?” ARNOLD: “I think what happened was it was a total coincidence because I didn’t even try out for Terminator. I was trying to be Kyle Reese. “And during the lunch when I met with James Cameron, the director... I kept talking all the time about the Terminator. I said to Cameron, ‘It doesn’t matter. I know you guys have already probably hired O.J. Simpson. But whoever is playing it, I just want you to be clear. He has to train himself to dissemble weapons and to put weapons together and to shoot and to load the weapons and all of this stuff blindfolded, totally blindfolded.’” “‘Because a Terminator can never, ever look down at his hand, what he’s doing, because he’s a machine. He’s a robot. When he walks, he has to have a certain walk, meaning he scans and looks around. He has to have a certain scan. It has to be absolutely clear at all times that this is a machine with absolutely no human behavior.’” “But this went on like this for an hour, what I just did.” STERN: “You didn’t even know you were excited.” ARNOLD: “No, no, because I saw the Yul Brynner character in Westworld where he played the machine. And so I was so, you know, kind of amazed at his performance. And he was an extraordinary actor.” STERN: “Fabulous.” ARNOLD: "So I kept talking about this and talking about how he has to walk, how he has to get up and how he has to tear his flesh out and how he has to operate on his eye. And, you know, no pain and no feelings.” “And James Cameron looked at me at the end of the lunch, and he said, ‘So why don’t you play Terminator? I mean, you understand him so well, this character. This is exactly what we need.’ And I said, ‘No, no, no, Jim, please. I counted the amount of lines. This guy says it’s 27 lines. In Conan, I had 128 lines. So I’m not gonna go backwards. You can give it to someone else. But I want to talk a lot. I want to perform. I want to be the leading man.’ “He says, ‘I will make that guy the leading man. It’s called the Terminator. I will shoot it from below up. You will look heroic. And don’t worry about killing all those people, because you’re a machine. No one is going to blame Arnold. You’re a machine. You’re acting as a machine.’”

Arnold Schwarzenegger reveals he never even auditioned to play the Terminator “It was a total coincidence because I didn’t even try out for Terminator, I was trying to be Kyle Reese, and during the lunch when I met with James Cameron the director and the producer John Daily, I kept talking all the time about the Terminator” “I said to Cameron, whoever is playing it I just want you to be clear, he has to train himself to disassemble weapons and to put weapons together and to shoot and to load the weapons often blindfolded, totally blind, because a Terminator can never ever look down at his hand at what he’s doing because he’s a machine, he’s a robot” “When he walks he has to have a certain walk, when he scans and looks around he has to have a certain scan, it has to be absolutely clear at all times that this is a machine with no human behaviour” “This went on like this for an hour and James Cameron looked at me at the end of the lunch and he said so why don’t you play Terminator, you understand him so well, this is exactly what we need, and I said no no no Jim please, I’m an actor, I counted the amount of lines this guy says, it’s 27 lines, then Conan I had 128 lines, so I’m not gonna go backwards, you can give it to someone else, I want to talk a lot, I want to perform, I want to be the leading man” “He says I will make that guy the leading man, it’s called the Terminator, I will shoot it from below up, you will look heroic, and don’t worry about killing all those people because you’re a machine, no one is gonna blame Arnold, you’re a machine”

NEW: Arnold Schwarzenegger goes off script on The View—tells migrants to stop committing crimes and “respect America.” RARE W for Schwarzenegger. The ultra-liberal panel on The View was left distressed after Arnold was asked about the violent LA riots. That’s when he dropped the hammer: “The key thing at the same time, we got to do things legal. That is the most important thing.” “You got to do things legal, and those people that are doing illegal things in America and they’re the foreigners, they are not smart, because, when you come to America, you’re a guest and you have to behave like a guest.” “Like when I go to someone’s house and I’m a guest, then I will do everything I can to keep things clean and to make my bed and to do everything that is the right thing to do rather than committing a crime of being abusive or something like that, so that doesn’t really work in this country.” Sunny Hostin panicked as she was herd interjecting, before literally placing her hand on Arnold to cut him off. But he kept preaching: “So I think the important thing is when you become an immigrant, you think about, okay, I go to America because I’m going to use America for the great opportunities America has in education, in jobs, creating a family, all of those kind of things.” “Then you have to think about, okay, if I get all of those things from America, then I have to give something back.” “You have a responsibility as an immigrant to give back to America and to pay back to America and go and do something for your community for no money whatsoever.” “Give something back to after school programs, Special Olympics, or whatever it is, make this country a better place.” [Audience erupts into applause] The hosts were stunned. And for once, Schwarzenegger got it exactly right.
