At just 62 years old, Rick Jennings was given 2.5 years to live, after being diagnosed with bone marrow cancer — unless he found a matching donor for stem cells. Enter Ryan Menninga, a Division 1 swimmer in his senior year at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Ryan, who had signed up to become a stem cell donor, found out he was an anonymous match for a man in need, who turned out to be Rick. Years later, after the two were connected through the National Marrow Donor Program, Rick, now cancer-free, was able to surprise Ryan on his wedding day, so he could offer an official thank you for Ryan’s kindness.
