I inspected the ongoing work at the 150 bed capacity Edo State Specialist Hospital in Udomi, and I am impressed by the speed and quality of the project. This hospital is a major step in our commitment to take development beyond the cities into communities that have long waited for greater government presence. When completed, it will not only improve healthcare delivery but also support medical training for students of Ambrose Alli University and stimulate economic growth in the area. I joined His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama on the Thank You Tour in the Central Region. The tour culminated in a gathering at the Victoria Park in Cape Coast. It was attended by the Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area, the president and members of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, a large retinue of Queen mothers, elders, MPs, and many others from the region. This event was an expression of gratitude to the people of the Central Region for their significant contribution to our victory in the 2024 elections. I emphasized the importance of standing firm in our collective pursuit of progress and inclusivity in governance. We also reaffirmed our commitment to equitable development rather than serving a select few. For years now, we have had to deal with congestion and the indiscriminate use of Douglas Road, Owerri, despite its status as a major economic artery of the State. This unfortunate situation has created an enabling environment for the breeding of different classes of criminal elements, thereby undermining public safety, order, and the smooth flow of commercial activities. The deplorable condition of the road further contributed to these challenges, encouraging abuse and illegal movements, particularly by motorists and street traders. Our decision to embark on the reconstruction of this strategic road is in line with our Urban Renewal Project, which is aimed at salvaging the City of Owerri from the looming threat of economic stagnation and reversing the gradual decline in urban development and growth. Beyond restoring critical infrastructure, this intervention seeks to create a more organized, secure, and economically vibrant city, and during my inspection of the project site, I could literally feel the fresh air of relief breathed by residents and users of the road, expressing their appreciation for the transformative impact of our Urban Renewal Projects. The quality and pace of work observed are consistent with the expectations of the Government, and I am pleased that progress remains on track for completion within the contractual timeline. - Hope Uzodimma

📹 Today, I attended the sod-turning event for the construction of Protea Village in Bishopscourt, Cape Town, and I look forward to returning once construction is complete. The development of Protea Village will see 86 families return to the area after being forcibly removed in the 1960s and 1970s. As the Department of Public Works & Infrastructure, we are proud to have played a role in this project by making the land available for development. Working with all spheres of government, the Department looks forward to supporting similar projects across the country as we continue to restore dignity to communities. #LetsBuildSA 💙🇿🇦
