There’s a video circulating online claiming to show damage to one of the Miami signature bridge’s arches so I reached out to FDOT for comment. Here’s what they told me: “We want to assure the public that this is not a safety issue. The areas shown in the images are not structural cracks, but minor surface finishing inconsistencies that can sometimes occur after concrete is poured and the formwork is removed. These surface variations are cosmetic in nature and are not structural components or defects. They do not affect the safety, durability, or structural integrity of the bridge in any way. Any surface irregularities are addressed through standard concrete finishing procedures as part of normal construction practice. FDOT is fully committed to ensuring the safety, quality, and long-term durability of the I-395 Signature Bridge. The project is subject to rigorous engineering standards, continuous inspection, and strict quality control measures throughout every phase of construction. Safety remains FDOT’s highest priority, and the Department works closely with project leadership to uphold and exceed established structural and safety requirements. We appreciate the community’s attention and willingness to report anything that seems unusual.”

These range from using heavy equipment to clear overgrown vegetation, to applying beneficial fire to the landscape. We work alongside state, federal, local, and tribal partners to accomplish these prevention efforts. Additionally, we are working to improve building codes and standards to improve community resilience and help reduce the spread and impact of fires. I am deeply saddened by the destruction at Adum market in Kumasi after Friday's fire. My heart goes out to the affected traders. I visited the market and commended the Fire Service for their efforts, but access remains a major challenge. We must prioritise better planning in our markets. This tragedy underscores the urgent need for improved fire safety. I've directed the Chief of Staff to work with the Ashanti Regional Minister and NADMO to assess losses and provide immediate relief. A major concern is the use of gas cylinders and cooking in markets. These practices are extremely dangerous. Our traders and shop owners must be educated and committed to fire safety to prevent future tragedies.
