Reporter: The US handles about 45,000 flights a day. A 10% reduction of that is worse than the worst cancellation day of the past year, every day until the shutdown ends. Never in modern US aviation history has the federal government done an across the board cut of flight capacity like this, and now it seems that passengers are going to be the one paying for it.

✈️ Aviation chaos in Russia: flights canceled, people sleeping on floors, fighting — and singing “Katyusha” Russia’s airports are paralyzed as hundreds of flights are delayed or canceled due to the ongoing threat of Ukrainian drone attacks. In Pulkovo, 48 flights were delayed, 74 canceled. At Sheremetyevo, 174 flights were canceled in the evening, with 47 more delayed. On a flight to Almaty stuck for over 15 hours, passengers began to fall ill and a scandal erupted on board. At Strigino Airport (Nizhny Novgorod), a “Carpet” regime is in place — all flights delayed, and passengers told they won’t be leaving for at least two days. Families with children are sleeping directly on the airport floor. Some are stranded abroad, including in Turkey, unable to return. 🤡 But the most surreal footage shows passengers stuck at Sheremetyevo suddenly singing “Katyusha.” It feels like a state-ordered flashmob. Because when in doubt, Russians sing "Katyusha".

I had to come over in person, at 11pm, to attend to this....we have ensured that all of the passengers who stayed behind, including an infant travelling with the father alone, have been driven to the hotel. At dawn, the bus will return the passengers to the airport for their flight. By this, the airline has also performed its duty of care. This complaint is now resolved and closed.

At Sheremetyevo, passengers are waiting for their flights for 10-12 hours, with many sleeping right on the floor. The same is happening at Pulkovo airport.

Currently stranded in Gran Canaria. Jet2 removed a group from a flight back to the UK while the rest of the passengers boarded. They were told to take a different flight to Birmingham and then make their own way home. What's raising serious concerns is that the passengers removed were all from ethnic minority backgrounds, including Muslim, South Asian, and North African travellers. They were informed at the last minute, given little support, and are now stuck at the airport. If this happened to you, would you accept the explanation? #Jet2 #TravelChaos #TravelDiscrimination

This is the condition of a sleeper coach on a train in North India. What’s the point of having a reservation system if reserved passengers still have to travel like this ? No railway authority even seemed bothered to address the situation. If passengers who booked sleeper tickets are forced to travel under these conditions, the Railways should refund the full sleeper fare. Ministry of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw

🇺🇦 Due to Ukrainian drone attacks on Moscow, the city has closed its airspace. As a result, flights are being turned back and diverted to alternate airports. ▪️ Passengers on the Istanbul–Moscow flight learned half an hour before landing that Moscow airports were closed. The plane was turned around and flown back to Istanbul — spending about four hours in the air instead of landing as scheduled. ▪️ The Sochi–Moscow flight was redirected to Kazan. The crew told passengers they were refueling and waiting for at least one Moscow airport to reopen, but could not guarantee the next route. ✈️ Russia’s aviation authority has activated Plan “Kover” (Carpet) — a temporary ban on flight arrivals and departures, which remains in effect until the drone threat is eliminated. This regularly leaves dozens of flights stranded at alternate aerodromes.

This morning I received a call that passengers of a particular airline were stranded due to weather. Passengers did not believe the airline, and so calls were made. I rushed to the airport to engage passengers and investigate. I spoke with NIMET, the airline's station manager, and my CPOs. Turned out that the airline did not lie as I demanded to sight the aircraft on ground. Passengers understood in the end, and the flight was cancelled - and rescheduled for tomorrow. Among the passengers was the seasoned journalist and presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Omoyele Sowore, who remained calm through the situation. He also offered possible solutions for reducing flight disruptions in Nigeria.

A new trend in American airports. On some flights to India, up to 30% of passengers are requesting assistance with wheelchairs! In the United States, airlines are not allowed to request medical documentation from a passenger who has requested a wheelchair and special assistance. And this service is provided free of charge.
