More weapon-rattling from Russia: Russia has no intention of attacking Europe, but Europe will face a "full-fledged military response" if it attacks first, Lavrov said. Finland's handling of the Estlink cable incident might determine how Russian hybrid attacks look like in the future - Danish military expert Anders Nielsen discusses the incident and predicts that Russia might step up its hybrid attacks on Europe in the near future. According to him, if the captain of the vessel ends up in Finnish prison for a long time, it will be much more difficult and/or expensive for Russia to convince captains of its shadow fleet to commit any sort of hybrid attacks. So Finland's swift reaction is actually contributing to security in Europe. However, Russia will probably step up its attempts to make Europeans feel like war has come to their territory, Nielsen believes. One reason for that is for Europeans to halt weapon and equipment supplies to Ukraine because they are needed "at home" to deal with Russia's hybrid attacks. Another one is to emphasize that Russia will have the upper hand and is not to be messed with. Russia is determined to test European borders and could turn a "frosty peace" in Europe into a "hot confrontation", Martin Jäger, head of the Germany's BND intelligence service, said. During a public briefing, Martin Jaeger said that Moscow believes it has a realistic chance of expanding its sphere of influence westward and making Europe "dependent on Russia." "As all the allies, we have to be the one to negotiate this new architecture of security for Europe the day after, because our geography will not change. If there is a clear date, it will mean that Russia will not be able to block our accession in any way.
