NEW: Governor Greg Abbott says the construction pause in Big Bend National Park is a “consequence” of his conversation with Secretary Markwayne Mullin over the weekend where he committed to scrapping any barrier construction in the park—There was not going to be a 30 foot wall, but it sounds like they’re also going to do away with the vehicle barriers that were planned for the area. Governor Abbott says they can use technology and other resources to prevent illegal crossings. A lot of the clearing (now paused) is for patrol roads… It will be interesting to see if that scrap that part of the plan as well.

Chris Finch on the Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle pairing this season “I hoped that it would be a little bit better. There’s no basketball reason why we shouldn’t be able to be a little bit better there. I think they kind of both play in the same rhythm, but I feel like it kind of feels like it’s maybe ‘your turn-my turn’ a bit rather than having like a two-man game such as Denver has with Murray and Jokic, but they both have the ability to create for each other, which I think came and went at times. I think that could’ve been a little bit more consistent, but I don’t think it’s a bad fit... But yeah, they both kind of play fairly ball-dominant. They like to create a lot of their own offense, and that sometimes makes it a bit of a tough partnership just because you’ve got to remember to also have that ability to keep the music playing as we like to say, keep the ball moving.”

KIDS: One of the hardest things for talented players as they move up levels is to accept and excel in a role that may be a little bit lower in the lineup than what they’re used to. Every level you go up, there are more and more talented players and more often than not you’ll have to earn your way up the lineup. The best way to do that is to play your role to the best of your ability to build trust with the coach so that when time comes for changes in the lineup, they see your value and want to bump you up. Be the hardest worker, do the little things, and excel in the role you’ve been given. Tye Kartye was well over a point per game in the OHL. Three years ago he was the AHL rookie of the year. A few weeks ago he was a healthy scratch for Seattle. And this clip is what is going to earn him more ice time and a chance to have an impact. Check out the second, third, and fourth efforts he gives on this goal. Battles, gets knocked down, comes up with the puck, and then uses his skill and is rewarded with the assist. It’s easy for talented players to have a bad attitude when asked to play a role lower in the lineup. It’s obviously not good for the team, but it’s not good for the player either as they try to get out of it. A great attitude, an insatiable work ethic, and excelling in the role you’ve been given is what EARNS you more ice time and roles. Great job by Kartye!!
