In 1952, amidst concerns linking smoking to cancer, Kent cigarettes introduced an asbestos filter as a measure to safeguard its smokers. With each inhalation, asbestos fibers from the filter made their way into the lungs of smokers. Inhaling asbestos fibers can cause incredibly serious health issues like mesothelioma. Mesothelioma life expectancy is 12 to 21 months with treatment. Without treatment, life expectancy ranges from six to eight months. Approximately 90,000 people die from asbestos-related diseases globally each year.
