FIRST LOOK: Oscar-Winner Michael B. Jordan is back with a new film, which he also directed, The Thomas Crown Affair. I’m extremely intrigued by this story, which follows Jordan as a billionaire art thief, and can’t wait to see what Jordan does behind the camera. He directed the hell out of Creed III. This has been added to my Letterboxd watchlist.

This started with a two hour pilot directed by Abel Ferrara and released in movie theatres, before expanding into two seasons of TV. Major Crime Unit Lt. Mike Torello (Dennis Farina in one of his first starring roles) relentlessly pursues up and coming mobster Ray Luca (Anthony Denison) from Chicago to Las Vegas and then to South America. Crime, corruption, blackmail and even an atom bomb complicates matters. Crime Story featured story lines spread over multiple episodes, a rarity at the time, and used a reworked version of Del Shannon's Runaway as the theme song.

Russell Crowe said that when he was first approached to play Maximus, the script was very poor. It was so bad the producers wouldn’t send it to him in case it put him off. Instead, they just asked him to meet Ridley Scott. Crowe did get his hands on the script though, and didn’t like it. He was going to say no but he was working on The Insider (1999) at the time and its director, Michael Mann, told Crowe he should meet with Scott anyway. Crowe did and said: “Ridley’s pitch was basically – ‘we’ve got a $100m budget. It’s ancient Rome. You’re playing a General. And you’re being directed by me.’” Crowe was suitably impressed, and took the part. Gladiator (2000)

The Las Vegas Shooting, October 1, 2017 was one of the biggest cover-ups in American history. 60 people were shot and killed that night.
