I spoke with her mother Rebecca Perrotto earlier this year, and she shared the list of questions that Liv planned to ask Elon Musk just days before she passed away from cancer. After this audience made that post go viral, Elon Musk answered every one of them, including whether he would make Asteroid, the space-loving Shiba Inu she designed, the mascot for SpaceX. The asteroid was detected in 2024 by Mr. Harold Safary, an astrophysicist of the Kenya Space Agency. This achievement marks Mr. Safary’s second confirmed asteroid discovery, further strengthening Kenya’s presence in global astronomical research and space science. NEW: NASA has increased the chance a major asteroid smashes into Earth in 2032, now giving it a 3.1% chance, up from 2.6% last week. NASA says the odds the asteroid hits Earth is 1 in 32. It is big enough to wipe out an entire city. The large cities with the highest risk are Bogotá, Abidjan, Lagos, Khartoum, Mumbai, Kolkata and Dhaka. According to experts, the 177-foot diameter asteroid would release 8 megatons of energy on impact, 500 times the energy released by the atomic bomb that destroyed Hiroshima. NASA has successfully tested asteroid deflection technologies. China will also be testing its own technology on a small asteroid in 2027. "This is not a crisis at this point in time. This is not the dinosaur killer. This is not the planet killer. This is at most dangerous for a city," said the head of the European Space Agency's planetary defense office, Richard Moissl.

Solar System bodies make deep space exploration more fuel efficient! Today’s video shows the Psyche spacecraft gaining speed and changing its trajectory with minimal fuel spent due to a gravity assist from Mars in May 2026. Mars has an average orbital speed of almost 87,000 km/h (54,000 mph) around the Sun. Its orbital motion and its gravity allowed Mars to pull Psyche along with it, increasing the spacecraft’s speed. Gravity assists have been used since 1959’s Luna 3 mission to allow for spacecraft (the Voyagers, Cassini) to reach farther than they could with fuel alone. This assist helped the Psyche spacecraft on its journey to the Psyche asteroid, which it will reach in 2029. While passing Mars, the spacecraft tested instruments that will analyze the asteroid’s composition and magnetic field. This is the first mission to an asteroid thought to be largely made of metal, an essential building block for planets, rather than rock or ice. This is no longer a time period where our dreams of space will die out because of petty politics and cancellations, the only thing that can stop SpaceX, Blue Origin, CNSA, CASC, LandSpace, and many others is an asteroid killing us all. Doge is one of the rare memes that went from a random pet photo to actual internet mythology. The dog was Kabosu, a Shiba Inu owned by Japanese teacher Atsuko Sato.
