Can we replace school with video games now

Let my kids play this and they liked it hahah

doesn't have the actual tooling setups wired in but wouldn't be super hard to get it there

we used to have a finger tally magic markered onto the brake with one dick at the end. gotta add it.

so I have an idea... lets make a ton of virtual simulators for making stuff, for next generation (kids / teens) to be able to "work" in safe virtual environment practicing these types of things?

dang nice man, you're pushing it

I’ve literally just been hanging out with my kids and shooting over a few messages to the clanker

Haha nice. Just left the factory about to do the same exact thing. Hope your kids are doing great

This is learning dfm in action, Most junior engineers haven’t seen how parts are literally made Amazing seeing visuals like this brought into the world of software This is certainly part of how we close the gap between design and manufacturing

Did you give it context for the part viewer on the screen or did it just do it from context of what you guys do?

Kenneth Cassel's profile picture
Kenneth Cassel1 month ago

It just did it lol. I gave it the data from our systems that unfold the parts and show bend lines, etc but I didn’t even explicitly tell it to make the viewer or show it at all

are you on API or subscription? you know how much of the subscription usage it used up? to build that

Pull in a rigged human model and have astra figure out the inverse kinematics for how the operator is supposed to move to feed the machine XD then you will be ready when you buy an Optimus.

Awesome. huge step over prior models, yea?

Kenneth Cassel's profile picture

very huge, about to give it a pile of production machine data and see if it can't make some useful stuff

Bro this is sick.

What software are you using here?

Kenneth Cassel's profile picture
Kenneth Cassel1 month ago

just threejs + pulled a bunch of bending data from our system

Cool, I’ve never used threejs before. I need to give that a try!

did you build this simulator from the ground up? Can it also post Gcode to your machines?

Will Hughes's profile picture

Don't you also want to hook it to production data and watch it catch bad setups? Or am I alone?

the real move is to make your own simulation software that you can also expose to users for DFM before they order a part and that same software that does the DFM also creates the actual code that controls the position of the brake (or other equipment) when you make the part ideal state is 100% of the things you can quote you can actually make. and 100% of the things you would want to quote you can quote, and you can do it automatically and accurately. some of that involves having accurate simulation, so that you don't accidentally let a part that is not manufacturable slip through the cracks

Hey Kenneth, what is your recommendation for bootstrapping an industrials company?

could this help someone practice the bend sequence before touching the real machine?

Kenneth Cassel's profile picture

eh probably not useful for that on the actual machine it clearly shows the orientation of the part. once you knock out a few you usually get in a rhythm if you have to do more than a handful we do really high mix so often only bending 1-20 of a given part at a time i think what this shows is that it makes it easier to build high fidelity simulations for DFM purposes, etc
