At its best, Security Council has stood for vital idea: wars have rules. Yet I've seen - Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan and beyond- member states debase this idea. If you defend principles selectively, they are not humanitarian principles.

“Minimal moral integrity requires that if we think something is wrong when they do it, it’s wrong when we do it.” — Noam Chomsky

Zelensky says he needs nuclear weapons or Nato membership to keep Russia from attacking the west. Would you support giving nuclear weapons back to Ukraine?

Chair of Urban Warfare Studies for Modern War Institute USA, and a world leading expert on urban warfare, John Spencer: “Based on my research Israel has taken more steps to prevent civilian harm and alleviate humanitarian issues during combat than any military in history. Facts matter.”

“Concentrate on the victims of enemy powers and forget about the victims of friends.” ― Edward S. Herman and Noam Chomsky, Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media

Wars have rules, so it’s a really serious problem when ostensibly neutral UN agencies allow their humanitarian facilities to be militarized, by one side in a conflict.

You're one of the rare men standing up for the rule of law. Problem is no one else wants to. Excellent presentation. Love the tie. The words are eloquent and superb. Thankyou ❤️

Interesting. UN agencies have repeatedly violated those rules. Yet, you continually gaslight us all.

“…parties to the conflict must protect civilians and civilian infrastructure as required under international humanitarian law.” You need to say ‘Russia must stop targeting civilians in Ukraine with drones and bombs as required under international humanitarian law’. Say Russia!

"If your principles only apply to your opponents then they are not #humanitarian"

Demons run USA and EU. They lie, kill cheat and steal.

Gaza is Hamas you clown.

Good to see these home truths being told to the Council members debasing Intl Law . Keep going.

A serious overhaul of the UN is required. With great urgency - as a matter of life & death. The whole world is watching, and protesting on the streets against the relentless Israeli atrocity crimes. Wake up!🌍

Unless the UN starts to do something instead of just talking about doing something the UN will become an irrelevant nonentity without influence where it is desperately needed.....

Hear hear. Some might say that in order to prevent the debasement of humanitarian principles, we must have in place both an efficacious architecture for prevention and also an effective system of accountability (and sanction) that discourages such debasement.

Even though you are mentioned here, the number of people killed in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, & other places is less than the number killed in the #TigrayGenocide. @AbiyAhmedAli said, "There are no rules in war," & then killed one million innocent people in Tigray. Where is humanity?

Wars have rules? Tell that to Hamas.

Liars, you protect terrorists and make the West fight under your rules, well no more duck heads

@KimGhattas Thank you. This is horrific and opposed by almost the entire world population. How come there are no ways to stop these atrocities? Our systems are designed for evil to thrive, designed for white supremacy. Everything needs to burn and we need to rise to stop all of it.

Sounds like it was directed to the US, well they don't comply with International Law

Great Speech.

@OzKaterji Try fighting an enemy who does not even recognise the concept of a war crime.

@UN is responsible for #GazaGenocide #GazaHolocaust

And God forbid we ever find ourselves at war we cannot expect different

@UNReliefChief perhaps you can succeed Guterres? He hasn't called "Israel" out by name even once in 18 months? The UN, and the people of the world, deserve better.

@RoryStewartUK The UN and international law is pretty much dead. It's the wild west now, no sheriff, no judges.

Jus in bello

@UNOCHA #Gaza #Ukraine

Blessed are the peacemakers. We are shamed by the failure to hold those who butcher and brutalise people and their countries. Shame on the UN for the platform it gives to those at the forefront of mass genocide.
