It is a truly great idea to combine Atlas and Astra to boost real2sim topic. If you also add a zero-shot transformer 3D asset generator like SAM3D to this pipeline 🤌

With Atlas, you can literally make films. And it also basically solves first-frame-last-frame transitions. Reconstruct a 3D scene from images, then position the camera exactly where you want it, and let Atlas fill in what the camera would see along that path. You’re in the director's chair, staging the scene. Here we made a 1 min video with a couple images of totally different scenes, and we set where the camera keyframes should move through each part of the scene. The scene-to-scene transitions are great. Atlas makes it feel like a smooth shot with no cuts.

Two of us filmed this on a couple phones, and we used Atlas to turn it into a short film. This is just a clip from the World Labs tech blog Atlas is able to generate the parts of the scene that none of the cameras actually filmed. It can freeze time, allowing you to reframe shots to positions never filmed, then resume. View events from impossible angles because Atlas knows what was there.

(Indeed, you can convert any 2D image to 3D) Please note that, for now, you'll need to manually set a depth map for your image in order to view its correct 3D version. (You can use to generate the depth map) But... stay tuned! I had an early access to GPT-6 Astra and I can say, everyone in the world now has a 3D designer at their fingertips. I gave it an image of a house and asked to create it in 3D with all the details including toys, appliances and furniture. This a full 3D model reconstruction in Blender with geometry that you can manually tweak and run 60fps as a locally rendered "game" on device.

No Three.js. No fake web-based depth-of-field or focal-length emulation. Customize in web, render in Blender. While everyone is vibe-coding apps for flat pattern generators, or at most Three.js-based 3D scenes, we’re already one step ahead. We built an app that lets you use a web UI to control an actual Blender 3D render. Eevee engine is used for streaming quick previews back into the app, while Cycles renders the final image for better material quality and lighting. So simple to use that you can even give it to your client. Of course, built with Toolcraft.

I’m so excited to finally talk about our new model, Atlas, and share some generations from it..so excited, in fact, that I made a fan trailer for it 😆 It’s an incredibly versatile, multi-task model with a wide range of capabilities. There are many powerful video models out there right now, but after working with Atlas and experimenting with it for so long, I’ve come to really appreciate its elegance and malleability...all rooted in the framework’s simple autoregressive design. Gave Astra a 3D scan of my parents old home to make it an editable scene. Then I turned down gravity and opened a portal. Turns out multimodal LLMs might have crossed the chasm on inverse graphics. Tremendous implications for everything from VFX and AR/VR to robotics. Process: ~400 2D photos I took in 2019 went through RealityScan and became a photogrammetry mesh. That’s the classical reconstruction step. Then I dropped that mesh into Blender and used Astra to turn it into a fully editable, cleaned up 3D scene. Asked it to use textures from my photo scan and create procedural 3D shaders for the rest. It's good but it’s definitely not perfect -- funny thing is some of the mistakes are inherited from the reference mesh RealityScan produced i.e. the bird statue’s legs, contours of the furniture etc. This is where humans still have much better “spatial autocomplete” and can take an output like this all the way. My next step will be to see if I can let it use CUA with the photoscan software to interactively reference the source pixel imagery and refine its work in Blender and get even closer to reality.

How about one image straight to an editable UE5 or Blender scene? Lumera just dropped paper - Engine-Native Editable 3D World Reconstruction with Objects & Lighting. You give it an image. It figures out what's in the scene, rebuilds every object as a separate mesh, then recreates the lighting as actual engine lights you can move and tweak. Even pulls an HDR environment out of the shot. The lighting part is the big deal here. Every other image-to-3D approach bakes it in. Lumera keeps it a parameter, like the scene was built in the engine from the start. Code and weights marked as "Soon". Paper -
