❄️🚫 No cold, no snow—just a lot of rain! Widespread rain will spread northward toward I-70 and Kansas City early Saturday morning. By noon, an enveloping swath of rain will reach as far north as Highway 36 in northern Missouri near St. Joseph, Cameron, and Chillicothe. Rain will continue through the afternoon before tapering off from west to east Saturday evening. Temperatures will hold in the 40s and 50s Saturday morning and afternoon, ensuring all precipitation falls as rain, with no wintry mix expected. Rainfall amounts will range from 0.10 to 0.25 inches near and north of Highway 36 in northern Missouri, 0.50 to 1.00 inch near I-70 (including Kansas City), and up to 1.5 inches south of I-70 near Garnett, Pleasanton, Butler, Clinton, and Warsaw.

A super cool phenomenon is happening today, as a strong cold front dives into the Gulf! Called Tehuano Winds - wind is funneled through the Isthmus of Tehuantepec mountain gap in S Mexico - becoming a wind firehose into the Pacific, with gusts 💨 reaching near hurricane force. These winds bring rough seas, upwell nutrients, and sometimes, when they happen early enough in autumn, can help spawn the spin needed to aid hurricane formation. Science!!

Wednesday, March 4, 2026, 6:55 AM: A series of strong to moderate wind events. The first wind event will impact not just Northern California but also Central and Southern California in the next 72 hours. Let me explain. The initial wind event will affect Northern California as a surface cold front crashes through, with north winds gusts reaching 45 to 60 mph. This particular wind event will impact the Napa, Santa Rosa, and San Francisco regions from Wednesday noon through about 1 PM Thursday, when the cold front moves down into Bakersfield, kicking up dust and debris and potentially causing issues on the 5 Freeway and 99. This will likely have impacts later tonight through Thursday. Meanwhile, in Southern California, northwest wind gusts are projected to reach 40 to 55 mph, possibly causing trees to fall and powerlines to collapse early Thursday morning and continuing through Thursday night. This will also affect Long Beach, California, which is quite unusual for these events. A secondary low-pressure axis will take shape, arriving on Saturday at 4AM to Sunday at 12PM positioning itself near Yuma, Arizona. This atmospheric setup with allow asurface high over Santa Cruz, California of a 1025 millibar high will create ideal conditions for a strong and potentially strong Santa Ana wind event for Southern California particularly the corridor from Santa Clarita to Camarillo around 55 to 65 mph, creating potential for destructive power lines to come down. Unfortunately, this very strong wind will cause mountain waves in the San Fernando Valley and Malibu region. The good news is that we will not see significant fire activity due to the recent tremendous rainfall we experienced in mid February 2026 and in December 2025. However, Saturday 2AM - 9AM there is concern that we could see even isolated stronger winds in Altadena and Pasadena that could exceed 65 MPH gusts. I am closely monitoring the situation, as this very windy period will also affect Las Vegas and parts of Arizona with gusts of 45MPH - 65 MPH. If you are traveling in those areas, please be aware of blowing dust and debris on highways. #CAwx

At the extreme of those wind chill values, frostbite can occur on exposed skin in 30 minutes or less. Monday, April 28, 2025, 9:19 AM PDT: Another unseasonable very cold Pacific storm will be moving into Central and Southern California, including Northern California, starting May 3 through the fifth of 2025. This system will pack a punch, possibly bringing more measurable rainfall to the region as this now is looking to be a strong polar jet stream interaction from the central Pacific moving in no later than Saturday at 4 PM through Monday until about 6 AM. Expect possible isolated strong thunderstorms and low-elevation snowfall down to about 4,000 feet, and temperatures to remain below average for the entire week. Continuing into the upcoming weekend, temperatures will get January-like in May for the region that includes all of Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico. I’m watching this situation also possibly turn severe as it heads into Oklahoma and Texas, Nebraska, and Kansas by May 5 through the ninth of 2025, as these California storms introduce more jet energy into already turbulent times for the midwestern states during the peak of tornado season. #CAwx #CaliforniaStorms #May
