PM Orbán: Ukraine's EU membership would mean admitting a country that is at war with Russia. And if one member of the EU is at war, the others are inevitably are drawn into that war. Ukraine's EU membership would mean immediate war with Russia, and even if there is peace at the moment, it carries with it the constant risk of war. We are talking about a 1,200-kilometer-long front line, and even if there is peace, there is no way of knowing how long it will last. Therefore, Ukraine's accession poses a direct threat of war to all European countries. Of course, those on the Atlantic coast can calmly ask for a cup of coffee. This does not bother them all that much, because they are far away. But we are here. We have already been on Ukrainian territory that belonged to Russia during the war, and we know the consequences. We know that if the Russians launch an attack from there, we will be the first to suffer, and we want to prevent that at all costs.

This is very serious. If we have programs like SAFE, we must make them truly modern and effective. Europe should produce not just what it knows, but what really works in today’s war and what is proven by today’s war. And countries already working with us on joint production understand this. This wonderful lady dressed as an RAF officer and is singing Vera Lynn’s “We’ll Meet Again” to an elderly veteran in hospital. One last hug. One last song. I’m in floods of tears. It would have meant the world to him. These are the last of the wartime generation. In our lifetime we will see them go and that moment is coming very fast. The world they fought for doesn’t exist anymore. We must remember them. We must sit with them while we still can. We must get their stories before it’s too late and tell them how much we love them and how grateful we are for the sacrifices they gave. ❤️🇬🇧🙏

So that a new source of pain and suffering would erode global unity and exacerbate cleavages and controversies, helping Russia in destroying freedom in Europe. We can see Russian propagandists gloating. We can see Moscow’s Iranian friends openly extending a helping hand to those who attacked Israel. All of this represents a much greater threat than the world is currently aware of. The world wars of the past were triggered by local aggressions. We know how to counter this threat. We have already prepared the necessary steps. And our primary goal is to protect the need for maximum global unity.

We should not degrade ourselves to secondary roles – not when we have a chance to be a great power together. We should not accept that Europe is just a salad of small and middle powers, seasoned with enemies of Europe. When united we are truly invincible. Europe can and must be a global force. Not one that reacts late, but one that defines the future. That would help everyone – from the Middle East to every other region in the world. That would help Europe itself because the challenges we face now are challenges to the European way of life where people matter, where nations matter. Europe can help build a better world. Europe must build a better world. A world without war. But for that, Europe needs strength. For that, we must act together – and act in time. And most of all – we must have the courage to act.
