Spoke to Press Trust of India on Madurai’s development during the campaign. From becoming a water-surplus city to major road and infrastructure upgrades, improved power and street lighting, 4,000 new jobs in ELCOT SEZ, ₹30,000+ crore investments, and progress from MSMEs to large industries to IT, Madurai is moving forward on all fronts, including a long-pending overhaul of underground drainage and stormwater systems, with DPRs prepared for the first time since 1908 and initial funds already allocated for the first phase.

Spoke to Press Trust of India on Madurai’s development during the campaign. First ever: To ensure the provision of clean drinking water to the people of South Punjab, a comprehensive project is being implemented at an unprecedented pace. Under this initiative: 🔹10 overhead reservoirs and 138 water centers are being established in Bahawalpur. 🔹12 overhead reservoirs and 256 water centers are being established in Rahim Yar Khan. 🔹7 overhead reservoirs and 100 water centers are being established in Rajanpur. The project, which began in March 2026, is scheduled for completion by September 2026. Once completed, these 29 reservoirs and 494 water centers will treat saline groundwater through modern filtration plants and supply clean drinking water directly to people's homes. InshaAllah!

Across all districts of Punjab, areas prone to ponding, where rainwater accumulates during the rainy season, have been carefully identified. To minimize the risk of urban flooding and to strengthen the capacity of cities to manage stormwater effectively, a landmark initiative has been launched. For the first time in the history of Punjab, 358 Underground Storage Tanks (UGSs), including roadside underground storage systems equipped with recharge wells, are being constructed across the province. This major infrastructure project, with an estimated cost of Rs. 33 billion, will provide a combined storage capacity of approximately 94 million gallons of rainwater. These facilities will not only help mitigate urban flooding during heavy rainfall but will also support groundwater recharge and promote more sustainable water management in our cities. “This is My Sohna Punjab.”
