Jews have always been here. That’s an historical fact. They didn’t vanish and return. Their presence in the land is unbroken over centuries. I know this from personal experience. My grandfather had a Jewish business partner in the 1920s. And just like Jews were never alone here, neither were we. Palestinians, too - whatever we were called at different stages of our history - have long lived in this land. We spend so much time fighting over competing narratives, we forget the truth: we’ve always lived side by side. Sometimes in tension. Sometimes in harmony. But always together. We don’t need to erase each other’s history to claim our own. We need to recognize that both peoples have roots here - deep ones. And from those roots, we can grow something new.

My recent Japan posts might annoy some of you, but there’s a very good reason behind them. Japan now has the second-largest F-35 fleet in the world, with a publicly announced order of 147 jets. That’s not a coincidence. I’m America First through and through. America is and always will be my home. But being truly America First also means strongly supporting our Japanese allies. We cannot allow the CCP to gain control over Taiwan’s semiconductor industry. It might not make sense to everyone right now, but it will in time. My recent Japan posts might annoy some of you, but there’s a very good reason behind them. Japan now has the second-largest F-35 fleet in the world, with a publicly announced order of 147 jets. That’s not a coincidence. I’m America First through and through. America is and always will be my home. But being truly America First also means strongly supporting our Japanese allies. We cannot allow the CCP to gain control over Taiwan’s semiconductor industry. It might not make sense to everyone right now, but it will in time. China just released an audio recording of a recent radio exchange between Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force and the Chinese Navy. The Japanese side identified itself by saying: "This is Japan Navy." The Chinese Navy immediately responded: Your so-called Japan Navy has violated your own constitution. To understand how inappropriate "Japan Navy" is, imagine an employee whose official title is "staff member" walking into a board meeting and declaring: "Good morning. I'm the chairman." That is exactly what happened on the radio. A self-defense force is the strictly defensive organization Japan was permitted to retain after WWII. A navy is a full military branch of a sovereign state, capable of offensive operations. The distance between the two words is huge enough to separate the postwar order from its collapse. According to Article 9 of Japan's Constitution: "Aspiring sincerely to an international peace based on justice and order, the Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes. In order to accomplish the aim of the preceding paragraph, land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential, will never be maintained." And this is only the tip of the iceberg. Consider Japan's growing list of "small moves" in recent years. 1. Using offensive weapons in military exercises 2. Sending vessels of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force to pass through the Taiwan Strait 3. Putting an active-duty service member on the ruling party's stage 4. Promoting discussions on nuclear deterrence One word at a time. One step at a time. From "self-defense force" to "navy." From "exclusively defense-oriented" to counterstrike capabilities. From preserving the pacifist Constitution to campaigning for constitutional revision. From honoring three nonnuclear principles to opening questioning nuclear taboos. Taken together, they reveal a much larger transformation: A force created in the name of self-defense is gradually shedding that label and reclaiming the identity of a full-fledged military, inch by inch. Extremely proud of how these young Marines carried themselves at LA Fleet Week. 💚 Find them and recognize them. 🪙 Lady: “I can’t believe nobody here has been to war.” Marine: “No, ma’am.” Lady: “How can you be representing war if you haven’t seen war?” Marine: “We are not representing war. We are representing what you can do for our country and our people.” Lady: “You can hear my opinion, but I don’t want your opinion.” Lady: “If you haven’t been to war, that’s why you guys are here. If you were they would’ve never brought you guys here.” Lady 2: “When you say, ‘What can we do for our country?’ what about the homeless?” Marines: “Have a nice day.” Not a single raised voice. Never in my wildest imagination did I think I would be called into special session over Memorial Day weekend and have to argue that military members and their spouses deserve to have their votes counted after they already cast their ballots. But here we are. South Carolina is trying to rush through new congressional maps while the election process is already underway. Military and overseas voters followed the rules. They requested their ballots. They voted. They sent them back. Now, because politicians want to change the maps at the last minute, those voters could have their ballots thrown out through no fault of their own. That is unacceptable. I have an amendment that says if the congressional primaries are moved to August, those military and overseas voters should automatically receive a new ballot for the new primary. That should not be controversial. But apparently, some folks are fighting me on it. Some days it feels like I am living in the upside down. It is Memorial Day weekend, and I am having to fight to protect the voting rights of the very people serving our country. If we say we support our veterans, our military members, and their families, then we should start by making sure their votes count. Standing strong. Holding the line.

President of Finland Alexander Stubb at a joint press-conference with President Zelenskyy: I think the basis of statehood usually rests on three pillars: independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. And Finland in 1944 with the peace of Stalin lost two of those pillars. We retained independence pretty much as the only Soviet neighboring state, but we lost our sovereignty to decide. And we also lost 10% of our territory. And as I keep on stressing, both of my grandparents were born and my father was born. So if the question is should Ukraine fall into this predicament, my answer is absolutely no. We work continuously to maintain the independence, the sovereign right for Ukraine to decide its path towards Europe and the West, and its territorial integrity. This is why we're here. This is why diplomacy continues. And this is why this is such an important moment in international relations and international history. Because in Europe, there has been no serious territorial acquisition or takeover through force. And we don't want that to happen again. World War II was enough.
