"The Knowledge Is Out There" Northeast of Calgary Alberta 20251112T0430Z This timelapse is made up of 276 images shot every 3 seconds, at ISO 5000, 1.3 sec at F2.8 with a Laowa 12mm mounted on a Nikon D810A(astromod). I am shooting at 1.3 to capture the movement of the aurora, and at 3 second intervals so I don't use up my memory in my card in case the aurora goes all night. Although I have backup memory cards, I am trying to minimize the amount of images that I take, on a typical night I am shooting somewhere around 10,000 images. I am at 20 Terabytes of images this year... this particular night, I shot 15,000 images. One of the toughest decision one can make when shooting reflection aurora is how much of the reflection can you get without missing out on the auroral pillars, there's 2 choices use portrait mode or use a wider lens, I choose the latter and use a Laowa 12mm, if the aurora is going nuts I use both options with a second camera. #Aurora #Auroraborealis #northernlights

VEGAS. DESERT. AURORA.. 🤯🤯 Crazy for those to be in the same sentence, let alone the same timelapse! I knew that the chance of catching Aurora was high on Friday so I packed up well before dark and headed just outside of Valley of Fire to a spot I tried to get to as of last april 2023’s big night of Aurora and didn’t. Friday night blew that OUT OF THE WATER!! I spent over 6 hrs out there shooting time lapses and photos on 2 different cameras. Kind of makes me wish I had 3 with me since last night’s Aurora was a dud… thanks to my friend Sarah for coming out to hang with me that night even though I had to drag you kicking and screaming! Lol I know that if you’re in higher latitudes, you need shorter shutter speeds to get good Aurora, but here are the settings I used.. CanonUSA 5DMK4 24-70 2.8 STACKED/BLEND ISO 5000 8 seconds F2.8 20 images focus stacked for foreground 400+ images for Timelapse with 1 second interval. Make sure to give me a follow and turn on Notifications as I will be posting more from Friday’s solar storm including milky way images and Timelapses! 🚨 Aurora Alert! 🚨 Hey everyone, a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) from the Sun is heading our way, potentially sparking strong aurora displays tonight into tomorrow (Nov 7-8). NOAA predicts arrival of the CME around midnight UTC on Nov 7, but add +/- 7 hours for uncertainty. The CME we are concerned with specifically launched due to an M7.4 CME produced by AR 4274. In coronagraph imagery, a full halo eruption iswasclearly seen. This is how we know this particular eruption is coming at us. When it will hit and how strong it will be are not things we can predict until we see the shockwave detected by satellites close to Earth (ACE, DSCOVR at the L1 point). The forecast shows possible G3 storming, and there are multiple CMEs on the way besides the main arrival around midnight on Nov 7. There is also a coronal hole that may enhance and add additional complexity to the situation, affecting arrival times of the CME(s). Conditions need to align for the best-case scenario to play out. The CME needs to hit (most models have a high % chance of this happening, but you never know), and the Bz needs to be southward for some time for conditions to ramp up. The auroral ovals may expand to lower latitudes, and chasers above the 45th parallel may see auroras all night long. During substorms, the aurora "explodes" across the sky and becomes bright and tall. These explosive bursts push the northern lights higher in the sky, making them appear further equatorward. We issued a summons to the driver 20-year-old Javohir Asrorov for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, no registration, and no insurance after crashing into an Aurora Fire engine that was responding to a call. Emergency lights mean someone needs help don’t make it worse by getting in the way...or your car might end up looking like this one.
