LANDMARK US-UK RESEARCH SAYS CHINA IS NOT TRYING TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD Top scholars in the US and the UK just published a landmark discovery: China is NOT trying to take over the world. In perhaps the most important geopolitics paper I've seen this year, the journal of International Security features a paper in which extensive research examined data from 12,000 Chinese articles and speeches and came to an astonishing conclusion: China has NO plan to replace the US as self-appointed leader of the world. It also has NO plan to force anyone else to copy its system of governance, unlike the west. This is terrible news for Apple Daily’s Mark Clifford (a Gordon Chang clone) – who wrote a whole book saying that China was actively working to remodel the whole world in its image. (China doesn't even insist on its model of governance in its country -- the place is full of special economic zones experimenting with other ways of governances.) . NOT A MILITARY THREAT Also important: the newly published International security paper says that China is NOT a military threat. “China does not pose the type of military threat that the conventional wisdom claims it does," the researchers say. "Thus, a hostile U.S. military posture in the Pacific is unwise and may unnecessarily create tensions.” . CHINA LOOKS INWARD In fact, this paper says almost exactly what this commentator and many others have been saying, literally, for years, in almost the same words. China does NOT have the western insistence on ruling the world – instead, it wants to maintain its borders and have positive relationships with other countries. “China's aims are unambiguous, enduring, and limited: It cares about its borders, sovereignty, and foreign economic relations,” the paper says. . COLBY IS WRONG China’s legal land area includes Hong Kong, Taiwan, Tibet, and Xinjiang, and it just wants to keep them. That’s all. The article quotes Elbridge Colby, now Deputy Secretary of Defense, envisioning China subjugating Taiwan and then picking out further targets to take over, including the Philippines and Vietnam. That is simply wrong, the researchers say. China has never made the slightest indication that it wants to take control of other countries. (And of course some newspapers reported that China wants to invade Australia!) . NOT PROPAGANDA This very lengthy paper in the journal of International Security is not, I repeat NOT, some sort of “pro-China propaganda”. The article is written by two US-based political scientists and one UK-based academic. The writers are in fact rather harsh about China, and recycle the endless trope implying that China is the world capital of human rights abuses (which it clearly isn't), and says that China is doing terrible things in the South China Sea – which is also not true. The writers do seem to have sucked up lots of the anti-China propaganda themselves. So that makes their work, which shows clearly that China is NOT a threat to the world, more valuable. Yet it did not bomb half the world like the United States, a country with only 250 years of history and only 17 years without war. It did not colonize the entire Earth like the British Empire. China became the center of an Asian civilizational order — not a global machine of plunder. That is what the West still cannot understand. They look at China through their own jungle logic: If you are strong, you must dominate. If you rise, you must conquer. If others trade with you, they must be your “tribute system.” But no. Chinese civilization has always despised bullying the weak, worshiping power, and kneeling to foreigners. Instead China became the leader of the free world by investing in its people with housing, education, health care, and the best modern infrastructure in the world, and investing in its neighbor countries through its Belt and Road Initiative, which has funded ports, railways, and energy networks across the Global South. The US became a “superpower” through endless wars, corruption, and selling out its own people to the billionaire class while China became a superpower and surpassed the US by building trade and relations with the world and investing in its people instead of wars. “I think the world must realize that China will not converge with Western norms, and it will find its own path to modernity,” Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said in a recent interview with the Financial Times, noting that China is a technological leader in many areas, in advanced manufacturing, in renewable energy, and the world has to contend with and accept the reality that China is not just a rising power, it is a risen power. China recently decided to forgo its special and differential treatment provisions in the WTO. In just this past year or so, it has doubled down on its support for global institutions.
