Petrol and diesel prices are high again so the Government should provide cost of living relief by halving the fuel excise. We called for the fuel excise to be halved earlier this year when prices got at or above $3 a litre. Thankfully the Government listened then. Now petrol prices are up there again so the relief should be provided again too. Indeed, the LNP are today calling for such fuel excise relief to be made automatic when the oil price gets above $100 a barrel for a two week period. That way Australian families can always be confident that your Government will help out when things get tough. (Our proposed change would reduce the heavy vehicle road user charge to zero too.)

From today, companies including Coles and Woolworths will be required to pay for diesel costs when fuel prices exceed $2 per litre, following concerns that truck drivers were bearing the brunt of soaring fuel costs amid the crisis in the Middle East. The Prime Minister hijacked every TV and Radio channel in the country last night to say... not a lot. Australia is clearly heading towards fuel rationing if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. Why can't the Prime Minister be upfront about that? If we're headed that way, we should start rationing now instead of pretending everything's okay. One Nation has lead the way in this crisis. We've been the first to call for an emergency declaration, fuel excise relief, stopping the road user charge, underwriting supply ships and ditching net-zero. Australia is asking for leadership and a plan - two things Anthony Albanese has failed to deliver.
