Students fled their classrooms in fear on the morning of December 8 after Thai military attacks erupted along the border between Cambodia and Thailand. The Ministry of Education has ordered the temporary closure of schools in Oddar Meanchey to ensure the safety of students and teachers. According to the National Defence Ministry, the incident occurred at about 5:04 a.m., when Thai military forces allegedly opened fire on Cambodian units stationed at several locations stretching from the An Ses area in Preah Vihear province to Tamoan Thom in Oddar Meanchey province.

They were escorted back through the Poipet International Checkpoint, where officials helped process their return and manage the flow of people. Banteay Meanchey governor Oum Reatrey said the group included workers, vendors and some individuals previously detained by Thai authorities who have now been cleared to return.
