Someone please hack these modules and reprogram with open source software.

That's be great.

Which brand is the one in the video? That's a very important thing that should have been mentioned first!

Perfect time for another manufacturer to do the opposite of all this

I wish there was one.

This is of course exaggerated for engagement. There are no taillights that will prevent you from using the vehicle. If a lighting unit includes any sensors, it may require coding to the ecu to function properly but that can be done with available scan tools. German manufacturers have required coding parts for a long time. An OBDEleven Bluetooth module and the companion app handles most of this easily. Even replacing the battery in my GTI required coding. Did it myself with an OBDEleven, took five minutes. Not saying I support this trend but the aftermarket typically finds a way.

Stop buying new cars?

I don't.

Retarded

Manufacturers make more money on parts and dealership visits than on car sales nowadays.. we get the illusion of owning the car.

This is a violation of antitrust laws. The car manufacturer can't bond ppl to their services if the property is yours. The property can't act against you if you are preparing it

I’ll never buy a vehicle that does this. And if In run out of choices I’ll buy used and repair it for decades.

Antitrust conspiracy. It will be huge payout when these car companies face the law. Can’t wait for them to be shutdown.

Ultimately we will jaibreak all those cars.

Stop buying new vehicles. Let them go bankrupt.

German cars. You’d have to be stupid to own it.

>390k miles runs like a Rolex.

I will only buy Tesla cars. I was screwed by LR,BMW, and Audi many many times like this. Tesla doesn't play those games.

@SFBayAreaJazz It’s like ink cartridges you won’t be able to put third-party parts in ??? Magnuson Moss Repair act !! nice violation. It’ll be great for lawsuit.

fact check false.

Everything has a jail break…

Interesting... As u say that i noticed that carhas its rear lights sticking out more than any other part. Like they designed that light to be their money maker.

Part tying should be outlawed. If our congress wasn't so inept and corrupt they should have passed a law against this rather than mandating driver facing cameras in cars.

2012, baby! I'll drive her until she falls apart!

**laughing in Datsun 280zx '79**

Coded parts will act as a deterrence and help reduce auto thefts for parts unless the robbers are connected with crooked installers. Even then it will help police track down stolen parts

I'm just going to keep rebuilding my 19 year old Toyota. This crap is nuts

Just stick to the older cars and it won't matter! Or get one of these and transfer the chip...

Fraud

Don’t purchase cars after 2019

Topdon sells a scanning tool for $199 that works for every brand and able to recode all those problems for $99 a year subscription for newest codes every year

It's a pain in the ass, but it's a bit more complicated. The reason they started doing this was, expensive headlights and tail lights were being stolen from cars and resold. Same reason iPhone and Mac parts are locked to a certain device.

@JDJ_MAGA Another reason not to buy a new car

@grok which brands do this ?

This is just a small part of why the auto industry is in serious trouble.

What brand(s) sell cars that do this? That's not legal in North America, for a couple reasons.

And all you stupid motherfuckers voted for this with your own goddamn money because nobody put a line in the sand. Fuck you. Fuck all of you.

The @reoindustries truck is a solution to this

It is absolutely no worse than I figured when Deere started doing it to local subsidized farmers
