Azerbaijan isn't a member of the EEU, and Aliyev appeared at the summit because Armenia didn't block his participation. First, Aliyev used the phrase #ZangezurCorridor, which symbolizes Azerbaijan's territorial claim under the name of the road corridor from Armenia. It is an illegal demand, and according to the statement of November 9, 2020, Armenia didn't promise to give an extraterritorial corridor to Azerbaijan. Aliyev previously admitted that he himself put the idea of the Zangezur #Corridor into circulation. But the interesting thing is that during this summit, Aliyev announced for the first time that Russia also supports Azerbaijan in the Zangezur Corridor issue. In response, #NikolPashinyan stated, "It is very interesting to know that Russia supports the project you mentioned. To be honest, this is the first time I have heard about it. I know that Russia supports the opening of all transport and economic communications in our region." Russia has created a security vacuum both in Armenia and Nagorno #Karabakh. Russia aims to get a corridor from Armenia through military blackmail of Azerbaijan. Armenia is no longer alone. #EU observers are in Armenia, preventing large-scale attacks by Azerbaijan. I hope that the #Western partners once again became convinced of the existence of the Russian-Azerbaijani tandem. One year ago today, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a Joint Declaration & initialed the historic peace agreement in Washington. What many could hardly have imagined is becoming reality. Over the past year, Azerbaijan’s peace agenda has increasingly translated into tangible results. Bilateral economic cooperation has begun. Azerbaijani gasoline and diesel are being exported to Armenia. Grain, fertilizers and other goods from third countries are transiting through Azerbaijan to Armenia. New opportunities for connectivity, transportation and cooperation are emerging across our region. Dialogue is also expanding - not only between our governments, but between our civil societies, opening new channels of communication and understanding after decades of conflict. These may appear to be ordinary acts of commerce, connectivity and dialogue. In the context of our shared history, they are anything but ordinary. They demonstrate what a genuine peace agenda can achieve when there is political will to turn it into reality. A year ago, a new chapter was opened in Washington. Today, we are beginning to see its promise fulfilled: former adversaries building a future increasingly defined by dialogue, cooperation, connectivity and shared prosperity. The peace agenda is no longer only a vision for the future. It is becoming a lived reality.

If you think that the Armenian separatists in #Azerbaijan’s Garabagh region were a bunch of peaceful “freedom fighters”, you are deeply mistaken. They were heavily armed & trained forces - primarily from Armenia as well as local armed formations - who terrorized Azerbaijani civilians for 30 years. The existence of armed separatism on Azerbaijan’s sovereign soil was a major obstacle for peace with Armenia that continued to fund and support this separatism after the war of 2020. Now there is a historic chance for signing a peace agreement and Armenia should not miss it.
