One year ago today, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a Joint Declaration & initialed the historic peace agreement in Washington. What many could hardly have imagined is becoming reality. Over the past year, Azerbaijan’s peace agenda has increasingly translated into tangible results. Bilateral economic cooperation has begun. Azerbaijani gasoline and... diesel are being exported to Armenia. Grain, fertilizers and other goods from third countries are transiting through Azerbaijan to Armenia. New opportunities for connectivity, transportation and cooperation are emerging across our region. Dialogue is also expanding - not only between our governments, but between our civil societies, opening new channels of communication and understanding after decades of conflict. These may appear to be ordinary acts of commerce, connectivity and dialogue. In the context of our shared history, they are anything but ordinary. If we have ties with Pakistan, may be their approach to Caucasus will be different. I do not see any contradiction between this dialogue with Pakistan and our ties with India." President of Armenia is spot on here. Diplomacy is not a zero sum game and it is absurd that Pakistan refuses to recognise Armenia. Yes they have their Indian alliance (Something we forced them into by putting our weight behind Azerbaijan) and we have our Azeri Alliance but that should not mean that we shouldn't have bilateral relationship with each other. There's no reason not to establish ties with Armenia and boost trade, Baku is very unlikely to have any concerns about that. If anything, we might play a constructive role there by mediating between Azerbaijan, Turkey and Armenia into making Zangezur economic corridor where Azeri oil/gas is pumped to Europe to replace Russian supplies and Armenians and Turks benefit from transit. I met with Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. I am grateful to Spain for its support and for this visit – a visit that will also, in many ways, support Ukraine and, importantly, allow us to expand our cooperation: the defense industries of our countries, our defensive capabilities, and our political cooperation. We value all of this very highly. Today, there are new defense agreements between Ukraine and Spain, as well as between our companies. We are working together with the Government of Spain and Spanish companies to ensure the tangible further technological development of our Defense Forces and our countries. Ukraine is ready to help with the necessary drones, experience, and capabilities. Spain’s defense industry, in turn, can supply Ukraine with the ammunition, radars, equipment, and other resources we need.
