In January 2021, 19-year-old Pietro Addis fatally stabbed his grandmother 17 times. This is the 911 call he made to turn himself in. Addis admitted to attacking Sue Addis at her home in Withdean, East Sussex, but claimed diminished responsibility. Addis had been living with his grandmother but fell out with her over his use of cannabis. In court, the jury accepted a plea of manslaughter due to diminished responsibility during a "psychotic episode." Addis was sentenced to 15 years in prison and will serve at least 10.
