The Bad Buildings Operation continues today at 139 Bloed Street, where we discovered 43 rooms being rented out for between R1 200 and R1 800. Although these illegal structures were demolished in 2021 they have unfortunately been rebuilt. This is a privately owned property, and a contravention notice has been issued. Upon investigation we discovered an illegal connection of water and electricity. We are disconnecting with immediately effect. City of Tshwane

The City’s Bad Buildings Committee has returned to Pretoria Industrial for an illegal electricity disconnection operation. We've arrested an individual who was allegedly posing as a City of Tshwane contractor and was connecting electricity illegally in the area. A fake City of a Tshwane logo was found on their vehicle. We have also impounded the vehicle. Illegal connections endanger lives, damage infrastructure, and undermine service delivery. The City will not be deterred from enforcing the law and protecting critical infrastructure. City of Tshwane

This morning, we joined the City’s Bad Buildings operation in Proclamation Hill. We inspected a property operating an illegal panel-beating business and discovered approximately 50 alcohol bottles, raising concerns of possible illegal liquor sales. Building Control issued a 21-day notice for unauthorised building structures. Our Energy and Electricity Business Unit removed illegal electricity connections, while our Water and Sanitation Business Unit removed an illegal water connection. The City remains committed to enforcing by-laws to ensure that private properties aren’t used to hide unlawful activities. City of Tshwane

Today, we spent some time in Pretoria West to collect what is owed the city: property and services. Several buildings in this area owe us over R60 million for rates and services. In addition, we found several illegal connections. We’ve disconnected electricity, removed illegal connections and removed water meters from all the bad buildings we inspected today. Every week, our Bad Buildings Committee, led by Kholofelo Morodi, identifies buildings that are hazardous to this city. City of Tshwane

We visited another property belonging to George Asaba, which we previously referred to the High Court, resulting in a court order to vacate. This is an illegal structure, and we discovered that they had tampered with municipal infrastructure by illegally connecting water. We have successfully disconnected both their water and electricity.
