Today, we targeted Christoffel Street, where we uncovered a hidden informal settlement situated at 473, behind a local supermarket which was previously a church. We discovered 30 shacks at the rear of the property, along with additional rooms inside the main building. Tenants are reportedly paying R1 300 in rent. We have served a notice for illegal structures and disconnected both the water and electricity connections. City of Tshwane

We inspected a property operating an illegal panel-beating business and discovered approximately 50 alcohol bottles, raising concerns of possible illegal liquor sales. Building Control issued a 21-day notice for unauthorised building structures. Our Energy and Electricity Business Unit removed illegal electricity connections, while our Water and Sanitation Business Unit removed an illegal water connection. The owners of this church have not been paying for water and electricity. In addition, they’ve built illegal structures on this site despite warnings from the City. The City has approached the High Court for permission to demolish the illegal structures built inside this site.
