REPORT: There were no vehicles traveling on the Francis Scott Key Bridge when it fell into the ocean thanks to heroic police officers who jumped into action. It has now been confirmed that the only people on the bridge when it collapsed was a pothole repair crew. A total of eight workers were reportedly on a meal break when the cargo ship crashed into the bridge. The eight workers plunged off the 185-foot bridge into the frigid water. Two of the eight workers were rescued, one who was hospitalized and one who refused treatment. "He brushed his clothes off and wanted to see his family. He was shaken up a little bit but nothing major. I guess the good lord was on his side," a first responder said. The six other workers are presumed dead.

Two workers went to work drilling a water well and ended up fighting for their lives. A routine job turned into an explosion when the crew reportedly hit a pocket of natural gas underground, a risk no one on that property expected. Two children were inside the home and were, thankfully, not hurt. We are keeping these workers and their families in our thoughts as they fight to recover.

According to All Nippon Airways, just before 9 a.m. on the 2nd, the wing of a passenger plane arriving at Fukushima Airport from Osaka Airport came into contact with the boarding bridge connecting the aircraft and the terminal building just before stopping. Twenty-four passengers and four crew members were not injured, but a total of three flights were canceled on the 2nd: a flight from Fukushima Airport to New Chitose Airport, a flight from New Chitose Airport to Akita Airport, and a flight from Akita Airport to Osaka Airport. Just before 12:30 Monday afternoon, the FDNY responded to a 4-alarm fire at 44-49 College Point Boulevard in Queens. Tragically, four people lost their lives in this fire. Two other victims were transported to area hospitals in critical condition. During operations, a stairwell collapsed, trapping two of our members. They were transported to area hospitals in stable condition. More than 230 firefighters and EMS personnel responded. “This is a difficult and tragic day. There were several victims in this fire. The Fire Department did an extraordinary job under difficult circumstances, putting this fire out and saving people. I can't thank them enough for their continued efforts and commitment to life safety,” said Fire Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore. “Upon arrival, we had heavy fire on all three floors of this building. There was a victim trapped on the second floor, which our members removed with a portable ladder. As our engine companies were moving in from the first floor and up the stairs to the second floor, the stairs collapsed, and those two members were trapped in the stairs. With additional help, we were able to extricate those members. As all that is happening, other members are performing CPR on the victims in the street,” said Chief of Fire Operations Kevin Woods. The fire was placed under control just before 2:45 p.m. FDNY Fire Marshals are working to determine the cause of the fire.
