REPORT: There were no vehicles traveling on the Francis Scott Key Bridge when it fell into the ocean thanks to heroic police officers who jumped into action. It has now been confirmed that the only people on the bridge when it collapsed was a pothole repair crew. A total of eight workers were reportedly on a meal break when the cargo ship crashed into the bridge. The eight workers plunged off the 185-foot bridge into the frigid water. Two of the eight workers were rescued, one who was hospitalized and one who refused treatment. "He brushed his clothes off and wanted to see his family. He was shaken up a little bit but nothing major. I guess the good lord was on his side," a first responder said. The six other workers are presumed dead.

Back in the area where I grew up for a couple of exciting days later in the week (more of that to come…) but had the opportunity today to drive around the area to some places I remember from many years ago. I lived in Humberside (as it was called then) from 1973 to 1983 during which time we took regular trips to view the construction of The Humber Bridge which was, when completed, the longest single span suspension bridge in the world. It was amazing to see this incredible structure being built and I still marvel at the size of it today. One of the notable features is the shape of the road deck. It is very similar in design to an aircraft’s wing. The aerofoil section is designed to make the bridge stable during high winds. This design was used following lessons learned from earlier, unsuccessful designs such the Tacoma Narrows bridge. I still find it hard to believe I watched this bridge being built over 50 years ago! Construction of the 3.2-kilometre Magufuli Bridge on Lake Victoria was initiated by the former president in December 2019. President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who came into office in March 2021, is expected to officially inaugurate the mammoth project before the end of the year. The project was initially scheduled for completion in July 2023, but construction was delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Originally known as the Kigongo-Busisi Bridge, the Chinese-built mega infrastructure was renamed Magufuli Bridge in honour of the former president. The project is being developed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Group (CCECG) and China Railway. The bridge was entirely financed by the government of Tanzania through its own revenues. The People's Daily, the official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), said construction of the bridge was completed on October 6. "As the last tank of cement was poured on Sunday, the construction of the Magufuli Bridge was completed by two Chinese companies in Tanzania's northwestern Mwanza region," the People's Daily said in an online post. Civilians can be seen moving to and from the eastern suburbs using the bridge. Because Ukraine almost exclusively uses ordinary cars for logistics nowadays, they will still be able to use the bridge for the time being. Although, Russia may repeatedly strike the bridge in the future. Additionally, a large section of the road's anti-drone net was destroyed in the strikes, providing an entrance for Russian FPV drones. The Malta-flagged 50k ton Greek-owned tanker and Marshall Is-flagged 74k ton American-owned tanker is on fire in the anchorage off Iraq. It is suspected the ships were hit by Iranian unmanned surface vessels (USVs). The ships were involved in a ship-to-ship transfer when hit and rescue craft are on scene. These two tankers carry approximately 400,000 barrels of oil.

JUST IN: One dead and 2 injured after a crane fell on the bridge over the New River in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The bridge also sustained significant damage as the crane appeared to leave a sizable hole. The two vehicle drivers reportedly survived the accident however someone under the bridge was killed. "The big crane was falling down, and it looked like when it hit the bridge, it broke in part," a witness told 7News. "There is a portion of the crane near the construction site and the other one that hit the bridge bounced off the Tesla and then bounced up and hit the van."
