The problem is that if you go straight to this position, you'll be flying open and pulling the bat across and out of the zone. The key is right before this, where the hisp open but the the lead shoulder stays back momentarily. This keeps the hands inside and release correctly

How to set up the tee for a pitch down the middle, inside & outside. I see far too many athletes setting up incorrectly when doing tee work at my clinics and I see it from all ages. I can’t stress enough how important it is to have the tee in the correct spot. You can have the best swing in the world but if your contact point is off, it does you no good. For a pitch down the middle, you’ll want to make contact with the ball about even with your front foot in order to stay connected and hit for maximum power. Inside will be right outside of front foot and outside will be right inside of front foot. Letting the ball travel too deep will jam you and catching too far out front will force you to hit the ball off the end of the bat and roll over. So for those wanting to change swing mechanics so quickly for mishitting the ball, check your contact points first.

This is the easiest way to show you the simplified MATCHUP between body rotation & shaft pitch. The steeper you are, the more you have to tilt in order to get the club back in position. If you try rotating instead, you’ll get way too steep on it. The shallower you are, the more you need to rotate in order to get the club back into position. If you try tilting, you’ll get stuck way underneath and will suffer from all sorts of low point and contact issues. This is a big reason why being shallower is specifically better for golfers who want to rotate more through the shot. Enjoy! 🤙

When you land at toe touch → heel plant, the front shoulder benefits the hitter more if it is slightly down or at least parallel. Not shrugged. Not lifted. Why? Because when that shoulder pops UP, your torso dumps all the tension you created during the load. No tension = no stored energy. No stored energy = you’re not maximizing rotation, swing path, or power. Period. It’s been this way since the beginning of time (uh not really, but you get the point) — and it continues to prove true. This is how hitters maximize their own power, no matter the size.

The game has gotten so focused on the long ball that this stat has gone way down across baseball in general. Just like creating a good bat path that keeps us in the hitting zone for a long time, squaring up the baseball is just as important. It gives us more room for error if we miss high or low as the ball starts to move. Fernando Tatis Jr is hitting .242 with a 3.5° average launch angle and a career-low 20% pull rate. Everyone has ideas and analysis on how to fix Fernando Tatis Jr’s swing. It’s pretty awful and I can’t take anymore of this, I have to say something because I haven’t seen a single person give the right answer. I’ve seen multiple people talk about timing mechanisms like toe tap, stride, and leg lift in his swing mechanics that have absolutely nothing to do with his problem. That reverting to past timing mechanisms would somehow help him. THEY ARE ALL WRONG Because they’re all looking in the wrong place. This isn’t a stride problem or timing problem. It’s a tilt problem. Stride, leg lift, and toe tap are timing mechanisms. They control WHEN the hips fire not HOW the bat moves through the zone. A hitter with a Sosa leg kick and a no-stride Ichiro stance can produce identical launch angles.Timing has no lever that touches the bat at contact. What actually sets launch angle is attack angle or the vertical direction the bat is traveling at the moment it meets the ball. Swing up through the zone = ball lifts Swing flat = grounders Swing down = choppers Attack angle is the only mechanical input that matters for elevation and attack angle isn’t random. It’s a direct output of shoulder tilt. When the trail shoulder drops below the lead shoulder at contact, the entire swing axis tilts. The bat is now forced to travel upward through the zone. More tilt > steeper attack angle > higher launch angle. Period. Tatis’s attack angle tells the entire story: 2023: +12° attack angle, +1° pull-side direction/25 HRs 2024 : +10° attack angle. -2° oppo direction 21HRs in 104 games 2025: +8° attack angle, 0° direction/25 HRs, healthy 2026: +5° attack angle, −5° oppo direction His swing has flattened AND drifted away from his pull side. Both are tilt collapse. That −5° oppo attack direction is the giveaway. When you lose tilt, your bat doesn’t just flatten it also gets steered toward the opposite field, because a level swing naturally pushes the barrel away from your pull side. He’s not late. He’s not under-striding. His axis collapsed Over the last few years and it’s worse than ever this year. This explains the 20% pull air rate too. Pulling the ball in the air requires positive attack angle AND a contact point out front. (Ramon Laureanos 2025 attack Angle was +14) If you tinker with timing on a flat swing, an earlier contact point just produces a pull-side grounder. The direction changes. The launch angle does not. Let me break it down for you: Stride > Weight Shift > Hip Rotation >TILT > ATTACK ANGLE > BAT PATH > Contact > Launch Angle Stride is four steps upstream. Tilt is the gate. Attack angle is the output that actually moves the ball. So now we know what’s wrong, how do we fix him? Souza and the Padres staff need to focus on the following; 1.Restore 8–12° rear-high shoulder tilt 2.Get attack angle back to +10° to +12° with neutral or +1° pull direction 3.THEN evaluate timing tweaks 4. If someone is telling him to flatten out his swing or to let the ball travel more PLEASE STOP DOING THAT. That doesn’t work for him You cannot time your way to elevation. Fix the tilt. Attack angle returns. Pull air follows. Please watch the video to see how his swing has gotten worse and flatter. We only have bat path data starting in 2023

Behind the ball is how you get depth AND length out front. (Not one or the other) Here’s what it actually gives you: 1. You swing more connected and deeper. 2. The barrel enters earlier and stays in longer. You get both. 3. Depth behind what buys you length out front. Most guys are picking one or the other. 4. You sling the barrel through. You’re not shoving it or yanking it into the zone. 5. You actually use the ground. Behind the ball you turn. If you’re not using the ground, you’re probably sliding and pulling everything towards the ball. 6. Your bat speed becomes usable. Pushed and pulled bat speed still reads fast vs one pitch one speed. Only one of them shows up on the barrel, in the zone, on time vs pitching. — Cue for your next round: let the ball get deeper than usual, and turn behind a wall. You can scoot close to a net in front of you to get the feeling, too. Then vs moving ball. > Save this for when you need it > Send this to a hitter who needs it right now (And make sure you’re following)

They must “roll” the ball along with them along the angle of their sets, but they must keep it inline with their shoulder. You’ll find that if the athlete is rising in their set, the ball will lag behind or not move at all. OR if the athlete is opening up that shoulder, the ball will continue to roll outside of their frame. Remember this will not look perfect! This video is the athletes first time, and there are lots of things to clean up. The important thing is that the athlete feels what it’s like to move horizontally without “bounding” or “popping up”.

A quick look at new Alabama QB commit Elijah Haven via MaxPreps. A couple of things you’ll notice right off the bat - Haven is TALL and can see most, if not all, of the field. His mechanics are coming along but could use some tweaking. This will allow him to more accurately layer passes - an area has improved between his sophomore and junior season. The ceiling for the #1 QB out of the 2027 recruiting class is extremely high!!! If Alabama can put a little more weight on this kid - you’re potentially looking at a lighter version of Cam Newton back there.
