More strikes by Ukrainian kamikaze drones on the Russian Rakushechnoye and Yuri Korchagin drilling platforms in the Caspian Sea, more than 1,000 km from the line of contact. The enemy drones were presumably controlled via Starlink. It can be seen that the platforms were equipped with light air defense systems or man-portable air defense systems to protect them, which they used to attempt to shoot down the drones, but failed to repel the attack. Europe must finally equip itself with real strength, real ability to defend its skies, its land, and its sea against any type of attack. In particular, this means building sufficient air defense production capacity — both against drones and against ballistic missiles. The situation in the Middle East shows how difficult it is to provide one hundred percent protection against missiles and “shahed” drones. Even in the Gulf countries, which have more advanced air defense systems than those provided to us so far by our partners and have them in larger quantities, not all ballistic missiles are intercepted. There were also “shaheds” that air defense in the region has not stopped. Everyone can now see that Ukraine’s experience in defense is, in many respects, irreplaceable. We are ready to share this experience and help those nations that helped Ukraine this winter and throughout this war. We are ready to work on developing Europe’s shared defensive capabilities. Europe must have enough air defense missiles, enough experience in shooting down drones, and sufficient production of modern interceptor drones. Together, we can make this happen. Thank you to everyone working to strengthen the power of a united Europe.

We should provide Ukraine weapons they need, allow them to strike deep into Russia, push war onto Russian territory, and put greater pressure on Putin at home. We need to seal holes in sanctions regime, restore lifted sanctions on Russian energy, and impose additional sanctions on Russia. On the military side, we should provide Ukraine with weapons they need, including long-range weapons. And not just provide those weapons, but also give them the ability to strike deep into Russia.

But modern attacks don’t try to beat these systems head-on. Instead, they use swarms of missiles, drones, and decoys to overwhelm radar and confuse interceptors. Low-flying cruise missiles slip under radar coverage, while electronic warfare jams sensors. In the Russia-Ukraine war, ballistic missiles and drones are used together. This combination makes strikes deadlier, even though Ukraine intercepts up to 90% of drones. In the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, Israel's multi-layered air defense systems such as the Iron Dome, David's Sling, and Arrow 2/3 have achieved high but not perfect interception rates against Iranian ballistic missiles. The numbers still favor the attacker: defenders may have dozens of interceptors, but attackers can launch hundreds of targets. Air defense gives you better odds, not certainty. Every missile launched is a roll of the dice, and the math always catches up eventually.
