The HMS Hood, the Bismarck, Germany’s Tirpitz (and other major German capital ships hidden away in fjords), and Japan’s enormous Yamato-class battleships were engineering marvels, but they did not decide World War II. Aircraft carriers, submarines, intelligence and air power became the real game changers. Building a giant ship today would be more about nostalgia and politics than military value.
