#SandyFire afternoon update: Firefighters on the ground and in the air continue battling the Sandy Fire in steep, stubborn terrain. The images and video below are from the northeastern portion of the fire near the Sequoia Ave area in Simi Valley. Crews are deploying hose lines and constructing handlines to strengthen containment efforts, while air tankers continue dropping retardant ahead of the fire to slow its spread. Approximately 900 firefighters remain assigned to the incident. Approximately 400 Firefighters will remain on scene through the night, continuing to provide structure protection and knock down hot spots. There are no reported structures damaged or destroyed. According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest rain has moved through the area. Highway 2 remains closed to residents only from Highway 138 to the LA County line, and several local roads remain impacted or impassable. San Bernardino County Public Works crews are working around the clock to assess and clear roadways. #PickettFire UPDATE: Thanks to the hard work being put in by firefighters, we now have 5% containment on this fire. Another flight from Intel 12 has been ordered to map the fire and provide updated acreage, which will be forthcoming. A priority Friday has been the dozer work on the right flank, an area that's seen active fire. The 15 assigned dozers are greatly aiding in establishing control lines and providing access. They are being supported by aerial firefighting operations to tie in the control lines from Rattlesnake Ridge wrapping around to Sugarloaf Mountain to protect communities that lie further to the east.

The Library Fire in the area of the Reagan Library in Simi Valley has been mapped at 8.6 acres. The road to leading to the Reagan Library has now been re-opened. The fire was initially reported at 1:38pm, and approximately 70 firefighters were dispatched to the incident. Multiple units have been now been released from the fire, but some firefighters will be remaining on scene for the next few hours mopping up hot spots and reinforcing control lines. VCFD’s UAS (drone) operators are on scene and surveying the fire footprint from the air to ensure all hotspots are identified and fully extinguished by ground crews. There were no injuries reported, no structures damaged or threatened and no evacuation orders issued. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Colorado: After days of Red Flag warnings and strong winds, the recent cooler weather gave firefighters the chance to complete 13% containment on the 87,000 acre Aspen Acres Fire in Colorado. The portion of contained line is on the eastern flank of the fire. 800 personnel are now on scene conducting direct line construction, building dozer line, and engaged in structure protection. There are expected thunderstorms today, which could bring additional lightning, and some rain. Fire managers are warning of potential flash floods in the fire area of the rain does develop.
